Principal's Message

NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week is an Australian observance which will be celebrated this year from July 3rd to 10th. With these dates falling in the school holidays, Old Orchard will be celebrating NAIDOC Week next week, with students having the opportunity to learn, appreciate, and honour the cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia.
This year, the theme for NAIDOC Week is "Honouring the Past, Embracing the Future," which means we will be celebrating the wisdom of Indigenous traditions while looking forward to a future of equality and respect for all. It's a chance for us to explore the diverse cultures and languages that have been passed down for thousands of years.
Remember, NAIDOC Week is not just about one week of celebration; it's about fostering respect and understanding all year round. By learning about and appreciating Indigenous cultures, we can contribute to a more inclusive and harmonious community. Let's embrace the spirit of NAIDOC Week and celebrate the incredible cultures and traditions of Australia's First Peoples. Together, we can create a brighter and more united future for everyone.
Cross Country
Congratulations to Adele Rajoo and Henry Leys who performed extremely well at Regional Cross Country earlier this week. The event is extremely competitive and both Adele and Henry should be very proud of their efforts. Henry finished approximately half way in a field of 90 and Adele finished an incredible 6th place, qualifying her for the State Finals in Term 3.
Netball
Good luck to the Old Orchard Netball Club teams playing their semi-finals this weekend. Current and former students are playing in the Comets, Meteors, Rockets and Mercury.
End of Term 2 - Start of Term 3
A reminder that Term 2 concludes next Friday at 2.30pm. There will be a whole school assembly in the Gymnasium at 1.30pm; students will have lunch play from 2.00 - 2.20pm before returning to their classrooms for a final pack-up and dismissal. Term 3 commences on Monday July 10th.
Kind regards
Duncan
