From the Principal

Mr Torpey

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which our school stands,

the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.

Dear Families and Friends,

We hope you all had a nice long weekend.

Compassion

This Sunday our readings remind us about being compassionate. We are called to see the crowds of our own day and be moved with compassion. Compassion asks us to imagine what it's like to be a refugee, homeless, a victim of domestic violence, disabled, substance addicted, a single parent or unemployed.

We may not be able to answer these people's suffering or perhaps for some reason we should not be the ones to respond to their suffering. In either event, what we should do is secondary to how we feel with them.

Jesus doesn't teach us today to solve all the world's problems, just that we have to have the right attitude toward our brothers and sisters, imagining what it's like for them and treating them in the way we would want to be treated.

St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal

The St Justin’s Mini Vinnies Team would like to help the St Vincent de Paul Society again with donations towards their Winter Appeal. More details can be found on the Winter Appeal page.

Professional Learning Day - School Review

On Tuesday our staff participated in a Professional Learning Day with a focus on preparing for our school review, which will be conducted in Term 3. Part of the review process requires us to gather evidence and make judgement around the Five Spheres:

  • Religious Dimension Sphere
  • Learning and Teaching Sphere
  • Leadership and Management Sphere
  • Student Wellbeing Sphere
  • School Community Sphere

St Justin's, along with other schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, are reviewed every 4 years.

End of Semester Reports

Student Reports for this semester will be made available to families via the online nForma Parent Portal. Instructions on how to access the nForma Parent Portal will be sent out to the email addresses that have been previously supplied to the school. These emails will be sent out next week.

It is very important that you have updated your email address with the school, as an automated email containing instructions and login details will come from no-reply@nforma.com.au and not the school. Please ensure that you check your junk/spam folder for an email from that address.

It is highly recommended that you use a computer to access your child’s reports for the first time. Subsequent logins can be made on a mobile device if preferred. Once you have followed the instructions, you will be able to view your child’s report online. Once in the portal you will need to choose your child (if you have more than one at our school) and then choose the reporting component.

Music Soiree

Our Musical Soiree Evening was held on Tuesday night. It was a fantastic evening, providing an opportunity for students to showcase their talents to our community.  It was an amazing event, enjoyed by all – thanks for the feedback. A huge thank you to Mrs Christy Ridderford, Mrs Jen McGrath, Mr Albert Axiaq and Mr Alex Cooper (PMI Music) for not only sharing their music talent, but for sharing their love of music. Thanks also to our Arts Leaders - Ivy, Thomas and Jessica who hosted our Music Soiree so competently. Thanks also to all who were able to attend – very much appreciated.

Chicken helpers over the holidays

We are looking for interested and available families who would be happy to come up to school and support our chickens during the holidays. For more information, please check the Sustainability page

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)

The NCCD is an annual collection of information about Australian school students with disability. The NCCD enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be best supported at school.  The definition of ‘students with disability’ applies broadly to any student who has received adjustments over 10 weeks within a 12-month period.

Information pertaining to the NCCD can be found in today’s Newsletter under the Learning Diversity page.

Year 1L Assembly

Year 1 L had their assembly this morning and it was fantastic!

We felt nervous but also excited to be presenting to the whole school and our parents.

We talked about our learning that we have done in Term 2 for Inquiry, Writing and Digital Technology.

Mrs Lutgens was SUPER proud of us because we only had two days to practise.

At the end of our assembly we sang a song about the importance of Green Time- time we spend 'off' screens.

Here is the link to our song--Screen Time and Green Time

Where's  Mr T

Can you find Mr T? He's hiding somewhere in the newsletter.

Have a great weekend.

All the best,

Pat
