Parent/Teacher Interviews

Parent/teacher interviews have been running smoothly throughout the week. Thank you to parents for taking the time to speak to our teachers about your son/daughter’s progress. This is always worthwhile, even if it’s just telling you that your kids are fantastic.

Staffing Changes

Room 11 (Years 4&5)

Due to Mrs McLay’s retirement at the end of this term, Miss Toms will be taking her place from Term 3 to 4 on Mondays. Miss Toms has worked at our school in a number of positions, and we are very pleased that she is available for this position.

Room 22 (Year 2)

Due to Ms Lawson reducing her work time fraction to Monday & Tuesday and Ms McLay’s retirement, Mrs Watters will replace Ms McLay and will take Room 22 from Wednesday to Friday for the remainder of the year.

Room 24 (Year 3)

Due to Mrs Watters reducing her work time fraction and Ms McLay retiring in Room 22, she will be moving to Room 22 and teaching Year 2 for the remainder of the year.

In Mrs Watters place, Mrs Duvall, who is quite familiar with Room 24 students, will be taking this class for the remainder of the year in a full-time capacity.

Room 28 (Year 4)

In Term 3 (Week 1-3), Mrs Robinson will be taking Year 4 (Room 28) students whilst Mrs Stone remains on long service leave. Mrs Duvall will be moving to Year 3 (Room 24) for the remainder of the year.

After Week 3, Mrs Stone will return, working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, which is the same as Term 1. On Thursday, Miss Sutherland will take the class for the remainder of the year.

Gail McLay - Teacher

Gail McLay has been at our school for thirteen years in a range of part-time roles from middle to senior school. Given that she has worked mostly as a tandem teacher, she has always been highly collaborative whilst working with another peer.

Her career has been both colourful and varied. Working across a range of schools within the city, country towns, and remote communities. She also worked overseas in places, such as Canada, and the USA. Whilst in Perth, she has also worked as a First Steps Mathematics researcher and writer, which now underpins best practices in teaching Mathematics across our state and overseas.

We wish Gail all the best as she enters another phase of her life and thank her for all her contributions whilst at Burrendah and to education in general.

Deb Stevenson – Education Assistant

Deb has worked across the junior grades as an Education Assistant at Burrendah PS for almost 10 years. She is leaving our school to support her husband as he takes on a new job opportunity in Angola. Deb is sad to leave but looking forward to a new adventure in her life and may return to Burrendah if the opportunity arises. She will be missed by teachers and students as that friendly cheerful face who has always been there to support our children.

Cecilia Tascon – Manager of Corporate Services

Thank you to Cecilia Tascon who has replaced Annie Leece while she was on long service leave for the last four weeks. She has done a remarkable job filling a very complex position and we wish her the best in the future.

Robyn Day – Deputy Principal

Robyn initially was employed to cover my LSL, but we have continued her Deputy Principal role to provide additional support for the Administration team and also as work experience in a different context. In this role, she has covered a wide range of duties and we thank her for her contributions to Burrendah and wish her luck in her future endeavours.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Congratulation to Florina for winning the Premier’s Reading Challenge last week. This means she will receive a book package in the coming weeks as a result of her registering all the books she has read this year.
