Term 2

"Empowering students to take ownership of their learning journey creates a ripple effect of curiosity, enthusiasm, and a lifelong love for learning."

As we approach the end of Term 2, we would like to take a moment to express our gratitude to everyone in our wonderful community for their ongoing support and collaboration. First and foremost, we want to celebrate the incredible success of our students. They have demonstrated exceptional dedication and enthusiasm in their learning journey this term, and we are extremely proud of their achievements. Well done to all!

Throughout the term, we have had the pleasure of participating in various exciting events and activities that have enriched our students' experiences. We finished off term 1 with a vibrant and fun-filled Colour Run, where our students showed great energy and enthusiasm. We started Term 2 by commemorating Anzac Day with a moving memorial walk, reflecting on the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.

Our students embarked on a journey of exploration and skill development during the term, immersing themselves in various engaging activities. They had the chance to refine their AFL skills through a dynamic workshop, immersing themselves in the exciting world of technology at the Banyule Nillumbik Tech School event. At this event, our students embraced their creativity as they constructed their own racing cars using precision laser-cut parts, powered them with batteries, and were exhilarated in the thrill of racing. Additionally, they delved into the intricacies of drone flight, mastering the art of controlling drones and engaging in thrilling challenges. Furthermore, our students unlocked their imaginative potential by designing and witnessing the 3D printing process, breathing life into their unique creations in the form of printed magnets. It has been a rewarding term filled with hands-on experiences and skill-building opportunities for our students.

In the teaching and learning domain, our students completed a captivating Discovery unit. Students delved into what emotions are and how they can impact their body and behaviour and focused on embracing the idea of being comfortable with the uncomfortable, challenging themselves to grow and learn. Students begin to investigate the way their behaviour impacts others and how to foster positive relationships with themselves and others.

In numeracy, students tackled various topics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, volume, and capacity. Furthermore, they honed their writing skills by creating procedural texts and explaining their thought processes effectively using experiences to guide their writing.

Our students also excelled in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activities. They delved into self-care creation practices, explored coding and bike mechanics, nurtured their green thumbs in garden science, and conducted and showcased their creativity through art and design.

For Fit for Life, our students engaged in thrilling activities such as boxing, walking and talking, bowling, and visiting the Watermark Gym. Our Interschool Sports Team had the opportunity to compete with other schools, fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and a healthy competitive spirit in tennis and soccer.

Year 10’s were thrilled to attend the Trades Fit: Young Women in Trades and Tech Expo. The expo allows female and non-binary students to experience exciting career opportunities in traditionally male-dominated fields through practical learning experiences, technology displays, information sessions and panel discussions. Our students actively engaged in hands-on activities and interacting with industry professionals. All had a Great day.

As we reflect on the past term, we are grateful for the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, and support staff. We also extend our sincere appreciation to all parents and guardians for their continued involvement and support. Together, we have created an environment that nurtures growth, learning, and success.

We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday break. We look forward to welcoming all students back for another incredible term of learning and exploration.
