Welcome to term 3

Welcome back to school and a new and exciting term everyone. The students have settled back in well and were all very excited to see each other after the school holidays. We have been consolidating concepts from last term and beginning to challenge ourselves learning new and exciting concepts. Year Two students have been programming Beebots in their mathematics topic of location.

Inquiry - Term Three 2023

'Then and Now'

Students are exploring the history of our local community and how it has changed over time. We are covering changes in fashion, toys, transport, food, technology, home life and how life has changed for indigenous people. They are exploring the effect of changing technology on people’s lives. We will investigate how the lives of our first nations peoples have changed. Later this term students will identify an important person in their family or the local community to interview and learn how their life has changed over time.

Students will look at the similarities and differences between the past and the present.

At the conclusion of this unit, students will develop a story (narrative) that includes some of the information they have learnt.

NAIDOC WEEK

In the first week of term we clebrated NAIDOC Week. The students discussed what it means to be an elder in indigenous communities. We learnt about the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islands flags and what each color and symble stands for.

Take Home Readers

As part of InitiaLit-2, students have free-choice of short and extended chapter books to take home and read. Year Two students are able to choose up to four readers from school to take home weekly and read nightly. Students in Year Two are also free to choose books from home to read each night if they wish. Students who choose their readers on a Monday are required to return them the following Monday. After reading, please record the name of the book in the InitiaLit Home Reading Diary for the day.
