Welcome to Term 3

Welcome back everyone to a new term. The students have settled in well this term and were all very excited to see each other after the school holidays. We have been working on consolidating concepts from last term so that we are ready to challenge our learning with some new and exciting concepts. The Year One classes are continuing to work in diverse ways in the classroom including working independently, working with a partner, group tasks and small group work with their teacher. In the first week back of term we focussed upon NAIDOC week. Here are some photos of what we have been up to!

INQUIRY

Then and Now

Throughout Term 3, students will explore the history of their local community and how it has changed with time. They will identify an important person, building site, local celebration, or part of the natural environment in the local community and what it reveals about the past. They will sequence events about this history to create a chronological narrative. Students also investigate the significance of a historical site of cultural or spiritual importance. They explore the effect of changing technology on people’s lives.

Students will pose questions and think about;

  • What are some important features of our community (people, buildings, sites, events)?
  • How have they changed over time?
  • How can we share stories about these changes?
  • What technology is used in our community?
  • How has this technology developed or changed over time?

During Inquiry lessons, the students having been comparing 'then and now'. We have compared traditions and learnt about toys now vs then.

Take Home Readers

 Each week, your child will be provided with one hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 2-3 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.

If you would like to read an extra book for the week, your child may login to the MultiLit eLibrary using an electronic device. The eLibrary uses a browser-based platform, so books can be read on desktop computers or mobile devices (including smartphones and tablets). You will find the link to this website and your child’s login details at the front of their reading diary. Alternatively, your child may choose to read a ‘good fit’ book of their choice instead.

Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought back to school every Friday morning to be checked and swapped over by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Friday.
