With the ever-increasing use of Artificial Intelligence in the world, educators across the globe have grappled with its potential impact on education. Questions of its place and value in schools are being discussed at various levels and St John’s has placed itself at the forefront of this discussion.
On 30 May this year, more than 30 students from St John’s participated in an international research program looking at how AI can be used in education. This involved the students conducting a number of activities using the specialised AI platform CELLA.
In Australia this research program is being conducted by Monash University’s Dr Mladen Rakovic, who is a Research Fellow in the Department of Human Centered Computing. This this the first phase of the international research project being conducted around the world including schools and universities from the United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Switzerland to name a few.
Dr Rakovic will also be returning to St John’s next term to work with staff as we explore ways to incorporate AI into learning at the College and help staff to develop guidelines on the use of this ever-changing technology.
