Principal's Report
Dear families,
Sadly, this is Mrs Sibio’s last week with us. She has accepted a position at Notre Dame College to pursue her passion of teaching English. Throughout her time at Toolamba Amanda has provided our students with a rich and varied music curriculum. Along with this, she has been a fantastic person in her well- being role not only by taking our social skills program but providing support for many of our students. We currently have a position advertised online which will close next Friday. Hopefully we will find a suitable replacement.
CURRICULUM DAY
Tomorrow is a Curriculum Day there will be no school for students.
PIE DRIVE ORDERS
The Pie Drive Order Form was sent home this week with your child. Order forms are due back at the school by next Wednesday 26th July. Please refer to the flier for more details.
LAND ACQUISITION
As you are probably aware we have been negotiating with the Education Department around the purchase of the vacant block adjoining the school for the last two years. Unfortunately, they are not prepared to go ahead with the purchase. I have included part of their response below.
“The VSBA has consulted with the department’s School Provision and Establishment Division, the Region and the VSBA’s Best Start Best Life early childhood infrastructure area. This analysis has considered current and future enrolment demand, as well as capacity, at the school and existing kindergarten, and within the local school and early childhood network of which Toolamba Primary School and the existing kindergarten are a part.
In relation to this analysis, it is noted:
• The school has significant out of zone enrolments – currently about 45% of students are in zone.
• School enrolments have declined slightly since 2018, when they were 180; in the last 3 years (2021 to 2023) enrolments have been relatively stable around the 140 to 145 students’ mark.
• The school has built capacity for 225 students, with 175 in permanent capacity and 50 in relocatable buildings.
• An assessment of the onsite facilities indicates that they could be developed to accommodate up to 300 students.
• This area analysis does not include the space for the onsite kindergarten so that facility does not impact on the analysis.
• The Shepparton West Region has been assessed as having sufficient kindergarten capacity to accommodate current and projected future demand without an expansion of the early childhood footprint on the Toolamba Primary School site. The roll-out of up to 30 hours of Pre-Prep in Greater Shepparton from 2028 and the resultant increase in required kindergarten places is expected to be accommodated without the need for land acquisition in the Shepparton West Region.”
Despite this response we will keep persisting. We do appreciate the support of community groups who have been lobbying for us.
