Principal's Report - Mr Pitt

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Welcome to the Week 8 Newsletter. The end of term is just around the corner. I am currently busily reading and signing every child’s school report - quite a long process but one which I enjoy immensely each and every year. More information regarding school reports is in my report below.

REPEATED: SCHOOL UNIFORM WINTER MONTHS

As mentioned a little earlier this term, the colder weather has most definitely arrived. Please note it is important that students continue to wear full school uniform during this time. It is also a timely reminder that students should not keep layers of clothing on when in the classroom. In Winter, both girls and boys should wear the school tracksuit to school. Please visit the uniform shop for the latest sales on various items. Our classrooms are heated so students should take their jumper/ jacket off, only to put it back on when leaving the classroom.

BIKE VISITS WITH MR PITT

Over the last fortnight, I visited 2 Cascade and 5 Sydney Harbour. Read more about my visit below:

2C – Yesterday afternoon I visited 2C during a maths lesson. Children were busily working on their own investigations. Some of the investigations included working with forming groups, forming groups in 2 ways, using arrays and bars as well as arrays and bars using multiplication. As I walked around, I could see and hear everyone working on their investigation – lots of sweaty brain stuff! At the end of the lesson everyone came to the floor and Miss Cassady selected some children to share their learning with the class. Great investigation 2C!

5S – I enjoyed my visit to 5S last Wednesday morning as I was able see the wonderful progress and confidence the children demonstrated when reading with fluency. After both partners had a turn at reading, children were talking about the author’s purpose of writing the text. It was pleasing to see children able to back up their thoughts with information from the text. Today’s lesson was also going to assist everyone to write their speech very soon. Great work 5S - I look forward to hearing how you go with your speeches. Good luck!

SCHOOL REPORTS

Semester One Reports, including Literacy and Numeracy Learning Goals, will be sent home on Thursday 22 June. Please talk to your child about their report. Take the time to read each indicator and the progress your child has made. Can I also state that a C grade is sound achievement – this means the child is working at grade level. Be proud of the achievement your child has made during semester one.

PARENT/ TEACHER INTERVIEWS

I am hoping you have requested an interview time to meet your child’s teacher. Be mindful that your child’s teacher has up to 20 or more parents to see during the afternoon/ evening. This interview is strictly 10 minutes. Reminders will not be sent home this year so please ensure you print out the slip once you complete the online booking form. Parent/ Teacher Interviews are in Week 10 in the school hall (please use the Wolseley Street entrance). The final day to book in an interview slot is next Thursday - 22 June.

COVID-SMART MEASURES UPDATE

Our COVID-smart measures continue to be in place to help reduce the risk of transmission for students and staff members and are vital in allowing us to keep our schools operational while prioritising student and staff wellbeing. These measures include:

  • Staying home if unwell and test for COVID-19 if showing any symptoms
  • Strongly encouraging masks to be worn by all students, staff and visitors, particularly when indoors, and if exposed to COVID-19
  • Maintaining natural ventilation with windows and doors open whenever possible, including when cooling/heating systems are in use
  • Continuing to provide RATs and other hygiene products to schools free of charge.

REPEATED: STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK

All adults on site will be healthy and ready to work and we expect the same from our children and their families. If children are unwell at school, you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date. Check out the link below.
