Principal's Message

A Message from the Principal

Welcome to Week 2

A warm welcome to you all as we commence

Term 3!

I hope all the children have had an enjoyable break, ready for a productive term ahead. Apart from the many learning experiences planned for our students, this term our Year 6 students are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on either Wednesday 21st or Thursday 22nd August.  On a whole school level, the children and teachers are already busy preparing for our upcoming School Concert, to be held on Tuesday 3rd September at Crossways.

It was a shame we had to postpone the year 3-6 athletic trials on Tuesday. We are hoping that, if the weather is kind to us, we will run these tirals next Tuesday 30th July. Parents will have recieved another Caremonkey requesting permission for this activity.

I would encourage all parents to view the Term 3 calendar attached to this newsletter for further details regarding upcoming events and activities.

Building Progress

The building is progressing to schedule with the decking outside the portable near completion. It is hoped that 3/4T will return to their classroom early next week.

Demolision has commenced in the courtyard with the sheltered area and windows now removed.

Sincere thanks to those parents who helped with the movement of resources and furniture last week. It would have taken a much longer time without your help. Thank you so much!

Pick-up/Drop-off processes

Thank you to you all for your cooperation with the pick-up and drop-off processes. A reminder that children should not be arriving at school before 8:30am. It is not appropriate that Before School Care staff  should be responsible for children not registered with the program.

The 3:20pm finish for those students using the drive through for pick-ups is still in its early days however it appears to be quite effective. We will continue with this process and review its effectiveness in a few weeks.

School Closure Day

Friday 9th August (week 4) is a scheduled school closure day. Our staff will be off-site for our professional development day with the focus being on the faith formation of staff.

Grandparents and Special Friend's Day

Tomorrow, we will be hosting a day to acknowledge our Grandparents and Special Friends. Activities will take place between 11:15am-2:00pm and will include classroom visits, a mass in the church and a light lunch in the hall.

A special note of thanks to the school community who have volunteered to prepare a plate for the day and also to assist with the set up and pack up.

Rubbish Free Lunches

Like all schools, Holy Redeemer can produce large amounts of waste. However, it is our aim to send as little waste as possible to landfill. This will lead to financial savings for the school, considerable benefits for the environment and many opportunities for the students to learn environmentally-sound attitudes and habits. It is also our aim to have the least amount of litter in the school buildings and grounds. This will make our school more attractive and save money and time in collecting carelessly discarded litter. The school is committed to a whole school approach to environment education of which waste minimisation and rubbish free food plays a vital role.

Every Wednesday, we would like to encourage students to bring their recess and lunch without any packaging. There are many types of lunch boxes that support this program, and these can be purchased at supermarkets and $2 shops. Attached are some examples of rubbish free lunchboxes. The rubbish free lunches will begin on Wednesday of Week 3.

Dental Van

We have a dental van on site Thursday 1st August and Friday 2nd August. Thank you to the families who have returned the forms. Students will be collected and returned to their classrooms throughout these days.

Seussical The Musical!

Last Wednesday our Year 4 and Year 5 students were invited to attend the Avila/Mazenod Musical performance, ‘Seussical’. Avila College generously provided the transport to and from the Besen Centre in Burwood. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
