Korean Conference Call

On Tuesday, Mrs Park and the Year 6 students participated in a video conference to two schools in South Korea and engaged in a cultural art exchange.

Mrs McLeod and Ms Dell along with some of the OPS students greeted the Korean students and their teachers in the traditional Hombok costume.

This was a very enjoyable and educational experience shared by both parties on either sides of the world.

Solomon Islands Donation

At the end of Term 3, Eleni and Toby helped me to put together some sports equipment to be donated to the students at East Malanita in the Solomon Islands.

This school is situated in a remote area and the students at this school have limited opportunities and access to schooling and sporting activities.

This package was received with great enthusiasm and gratitude.  The students and staff wish to thank you all for your generosity.

Foundation News

This fortnight In Literacy, the words of the week are HAIR, LIGHT and TAPE. The trigraphs we are learning are AIR and IGH, and the vowel digraph is A-E. Our weekly learning tasks revolve around these letter patterns in reading, writing and spelling.

Remember to keep listening to your child read each night. You can assist your child’s comprehension of their reading by asking questions related to the text and also about what might be inferred.

Congratulations to all the students in Foundation A and B who put in such a great effort to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Special mention goes to Daniel and Alex who read well over the 30 books required to achieve the challenge.

In Mathematics, the children have been learning about the value of money and also looking at events that occur over time. A fun learning session was experienced when the classroom was transformed into a shopping centre, where the students exchanged coins for goods.

As part of the Humanities program, we continue to inquire about ‘living things’ and the requirements needed for them to stay alive. Our seeds are growing because we know they need sunlight, water, food and shelter (see photos). We are now directing our inquiring minds to the variety of needs of animals. Next week, the zoo comes to us, and the following fortnight we will enjoy a visit to The Zoological Gardens – Melbourne. Please make sure you have consented/paid on Compass for these activities.

The students are busy rehearsing for our concert which will be held on Thursday evening, 15th November in the school hall.

The Term 4 swimming program runs between Monday, 3rd December and Thursday, 13th December, again please make sure you have paid and consented on Compass.

If you would like to assist at our Zoo Excursion on Wednesday, 21st November, or at the swimming program, please let your child’s teacher know, and we will add your names to our lists. We require eight parent helpers for our trip to the zoo and would love to have you along! All parent helpers must have completed a Child Safe Code of Conduct (available in the office) and if you have a Working with Children's Check, please also ensure the office has a copy.

Lorraine and Jacinda

Whats been happening...

Last week, Year 4 students listened to six very persuasive soap box speeches. During term 3, all Year 4 students wrote persuasive speeches based on the Seven Steps to Writing Success program.

They included various features such as ‘dynamic dialogue’, step a mile in my shoes’ or ‘paint a picture’ to write some very convincing speeches. Students selected their own topics and did a fantastic job putting together their speeches.
