Virtual Piano Soiree

Well done to Katrina Halliday’s piano students for performing at the Virtual Piano Soiree! While we originally had planned to have a live performance for all piano students, the uncertainty arising from changing restrictions and building works meant that we had to postpone that. Kat’s students however decided to forge ahead and perform virtually to each other, so well done to all the performers for sharing their music with us from their homes! Congratulations especially to the Year 7s who have settled in extremely well this semester, and performing for the first time to the MGC community on Microsoft Teams! There was a variety of pieces across genres, from classical to contemporary. Some highlights included: - Lorraine Sanares’ evocative performance of Arabesque No. 1 in E Major by Chopin,- Gracie Rawlinson’s heroic performance of ‘Touch the Sky’ from the movie ‘Brave’,- Alyssa Blair’s self-arranged medley of “Steal My Girl”, “A Thousand Miles” and “Clocks”,- Gwyneth Op’T Hoog’s expressive and jazzy rendition of “Yesterday”,- Lucinda Op’T Hoog’s performance of “Isn’t She Lovely” which got us all singing and dancing from our homes,- Jade Simoni’s energetic and technical performance of ‘Jingpo Folk Song’,- Sophie Blake’s eloquent rendition of “I Still Call Australia Home” which made us very emotional!

The theme was “Animation” and the winners of the best costume awards were:- Rosie Gerner who dressed up as Fiona from ‘Shrek’- Alyssa Blair who dressed up as Jessie from ‘Toy Story’- Sophie Yan who dressed up Mitsuha Miyamizu from ‘Your Name’

A huge congratulations again to all who performed! For those that missed out on performing this time, we are looking at organising another mid-year performance so stay tuned for details!

Instrumental Music Lessons

We still have availability for the following instruments: Violin, Guitar, Bass Guitar.

Thank you to all our Instrumental Music students and families for a great Semester 1. Students have been organised in coming to their lessons and have persevered through the various disruptions we experienced this semester. Thank you to our terrific music staff for their expertise and continuing to be stewards for our next generation of musicians - Ellyce Calder, Andy Clarke, Susan De Jong, Les Gyori, Katrina Halliday, Tony Hicks, Nicholas Milosevic, and Daniel Tedford. We are extremely lucky to have dedicated educators who continue to be active performers in the creative industry.

We look forward to sharing our student performances with you next term. Have a safe and relaxing winter break.
