Principal's Message

Each June we celebrate the winter solstice in Australia, an astronomical phenomenon that occurs as the Earth orbits the Sun. June 21 is the shortest day of the year and the longest night. At this point of time the earth begins the long, slow turn towards the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. The solstice has been observed for many thousands of years and it is a great time to reflect on this event and your connection with the wonders of nature. And the beauty of nature gives us confidence that there is a great deal of good in our world. As the earth turns the length of the dark of night decreases and more light and warmth radiates over us all. And so it is with what we have experienced over this first semester.

Jackson Browne released a song called ‘A Little Soon to Say’ last year at the height of the pandemic. The final verses captures the very essence of our journey:

Searching the horizon

For what we hope to see

When all we've ever needed

Has been there all along inside of you and me

I wanna see you holding out your light

I wanna see you light the way

Beyond the sirens in the broken night

Beyond the sickness of our day

And after all we've come to live with

I wanna know if you're ok

I wanna think it's gonna be alright

It's just a little soon to say

And so it has been wonderful to see all students back onsite for the last weeks of term. The buildings and yard were alive once more to the sounds of laughter and good times. In the classrooms a great deal of energy was evident as well as the fantastic participation in the learning program. Students also reconnected with the co-curricula program in the sports, performing arts and social justice areas. I thank parents and guardians for the support that you give to ensure that our students enjoy the benefits that Marian offers. I thank the staff, too, for their continued commitment to living out the goals of the College and providing different experiences for the students to enjoy. As we move into the term break and in keeping with the spirit shown by all our community, I think it is going to be alright. I pray that you keep well and safe and have a restful break.
