Music

Year 7

Year 7 Music investigated the functions of music in films through performance, composition and listening activities. Students were exposed to families of instruments and also continued to develop their performance skills on keyboard, guitar, ukulele and vocals.

Year 8

Year 8 Music performed Rock Music riffs and arrangements which culminated in a composition using Soundtrap which involved performing, arranging and creating a composition in a Rock/Pop style for their assessment.

Year 10

Year 10 Music composed melodies within the Australian Rock Music topic. Students performed various repertoire including The Greatest View by Silverchair and focused on the concept pitch and the use of consonance and dissonance in the song as inspiration for composition writing.

Year 11 and 12

Year 11 and 12 Music attended the HSC Music 1 Study Day at the Riverina Conservatorium last Friday. The day included Aural, Performance and Musicology workshops in which students were exposed to a variety of HSC repertoire within different elective formats. A highlight of the day was listening to Helene Galettis, the author of the Music 1 Aural Skills textbook “Musical Elements and Concepts,” present various sessions in which many valuable HSC tips were imparted to students.

Year 12 students are currently rehearsing with ensembles in preparation for their upcoming HSC practical exam which will be held in Week 9 in Term 3. We look forward to the HSC Performance Evening, which will be held in Term 3, Week 7, on Thursday 26th August from 6pm where the HSC Music students will present their performance program for parents, staff and students.
