Principal's Report

A Welcome Distraction

Whilst everyone’s focus has been on managing the impact of lockdown, listening for details of press conferences, and following the ABC News blog, it is a pleasing distraction that FPS can celebrate the end of the capital building works during the term two holidays.

We are now officially free of trades people and can enjoy our fantastic facilities, without disruption or interruption.

During the term two holidays, the Fairfield Rd boundary was upgraded, with the laying of concrete and soft rock, which really opens up this part of the school, particularly since the shipping container was removed.

You may have noticed a pile of rubble alongside the Wingrove St fence. This is a result of plumbing works, where water to the eastern side of the school was reconnected during the holidays.

The capital works projects commenced in 2018 with the demolition of the art block and installation of the Fairfield Rd Building. It has included many upgrades to the Langridge St Campus, demolition of the old Foundation block, construction of the Fig Tree Courtyard, and of course, development of our Wingrove St Campus. All we need now is for the children to be back here enjoying it!

Solar Panel Installation

A less conspicuous, but equally welcome addition to the school grounds is the installation of solar panels on BER (gym and Performing Arts room).

The installation of solar panels has been discussed by the Buildings and Grounds Committee and School Council across the last twelve months. It was agreed that significantly increasing our solar output would be a positive way to spend fundraising money, with this 80kw system providing environmental and economic benefits.

Many people have been involved in getting this project off the ground. A special mention to Andrew Vance (parent, School Council, Buildings and Grounds Committee, Environmental Sustainability Working Group!) for his diligence in procuring quotes, in consulting with possible providers and for the overall time that he has devoted towards this project. We look forward to sharing more information about our solar installation when the system is up and running.

Wingrove St Pedestrian Crossing

The new crossing on Wingrove St is working well. I have particularly noted how the cars travelling from Station St, slow down considerably at the first speed bump, ensuring that they are very aware of the new crossing.

Parent Opinion Survey

Later this week we will be inviting all of parents to take part in the Parent Opinion Survey. This survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning.

Keep an eye out in Compass for further details.

Great Efforts

In the Assistant Principal section, Sarah writes about the great efforts of everyone during remote learning. I would like to echo this sentiment – we are very proud of all your efforts.

We will keep you informed of what the state government announcements mean for FPS via Compass.
