JUNIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Lauren Edmunds

Year 7 Coordinator

Last week we had all Junior students sitting exams, for both Year 7 and Year 8 students this was the first time they had sat a formal exam. On behalf of your Exam supervisors, Teachers and Year level coordinators, I would like to thank you all firstly, for the effort and enthusiasm you brought to preparing yourselves for this and secondly, for your exemplary behaviour throughout the exam process. We are all very proud of you for embodying NGSC values, particularly Respect, Excellence and Achievement.

As we draw to the end of the term and Semester we would like to celebrate the efforts and achievements of all the members of the Junior school community and wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break. Upon return next Semester we look forward to welcoming everyone back to a new Semester, for some this will mean a new language, for others it will be new teachers and exciting elective classes. For everyone it is an opportunity to learn and grow and be the best version of yourself and a proud member of NGSC.

Using the NAO Robot with Year 7 Information Technology

The last few weeks has seen the Year 7 classes finishing up their learning for their Semester 1 elective of Information Technology. With this, they have been completing their coding exercises. Coding helps children with communication, creativity, maths, writing and confidence.

The students in Year 7A, 7C, 7E and 7G have been coding using Block Coding. Our NAO robot here at North Geelong Secondary College happens to be able to be programmed with both Block Coding and Python. So, when students then chose the elective in Year 9 and 10 they will have another opportunity to work with Winston our NAO robot.

The students have enjoyed this aspect of their Information Technology elective and look forward to more programming and use of digital devices in our classrooms.
