Cyber Safety Webinars for parents &  carers 

 

Each week the newsletter this term we will sharing with you the wide range of resources and supports that exist for families to keep their children cyber safe. Following on from the previous newsletter article supporting educating our students to use technology safely and appropriately including accessing various social media and gaming platforms, this week we are focusing on how you can help your child deal with online safety issues.

 

Various social media and gaming platforms provide wonderful opportunities for connections, fun and collaboration but involve serious risks of harm and exposure to inappropriate content.

 

As parents and carers, you face the incredibly difficult task of balancing demands to access technology and social media with the concerns of supervision and keeping your children safe.

 

TheeSafety Commissioner website has a great range of reading and resources designed to help parents and support how you can help your child deal with online safety issues including : 

Cyber bullying- understanding the risks and how to support your child if they are being bullied online. 

Online bullying can have a devastating impact on young people, whose online life is a key part of their identity and how they interact socially. 

Cyberbullying behaviour takes many forms, such as sending abusive messages, hurtful images or videos, nasty online gossip, excluding or humiliating others, or creating fake accounts in someone’s name to trick or humiliate them.

In particular there are some upcoming webinars which explore the latest research and they are a great way to learn how you can help your child develop the skills to be safer online.

Learn how to help young people safely use popular apps including TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube.

 

This webinar is designed for parents and carers of young people aged 8-13.

 

It will cover: 

  • an explanation of the popular apps used by young people
  • case studies, research, and targeted advice
  • ways you can support the young people in your life to have safe, enjoyable online experiences.
