Athletics Carnival 2021

We were so blessed to be able to have such a wonderful Athletics Day right before the cold snap hit the Shoalhaven. The day was most enjoyable for both spectators and participators. CSSA Secondary State Gymnastics

A huge congratulations to Amelia B (Year 10) who recently represented NCS at CSSA Secondary State Gymnastics. Amelia was asked to share a little about her experience:

'On Thursday 3 June, I went up to the Sydney Gymnastic and Aquatic Centre for the CSSA State Gymnastics Competition. We started at 8:05am and finished at 11am. I placed 4th on vault and 5th on bars. It was good hanging with friends I normally don't see.'

Well done Amelia, we are so proud of you!

Stage 3 Metro Cup Football

On Wednesday 2 June, students from Stage 3 attended the Metro Cup Football (World Game) tournament in Kiama. Schools from our zone played a round robin event with each team playing 4 matches.

We played the best two teams, who were eventually both winners and runners up in our first two matches. In the first game against Cedars we were beaten 3-0, but had glorious chances of our own and the final score might have been 6-3, but for some wasteful finishing and fine saves from both teams' forwards and goalkeepers.

In our second game we were narrowly behind at half time, only to concede further goals in the second half, again being thwarted as we awaited our first goals of the tournament. In the third match we finally scored our first goal, courtesy of a terrific flowing move along the right wing. Thomas H centred the cross for Lachie B to open NCS' account!

We narrowly lost 2-1 to Southern Highlands CS in the end, but more confidence in front of goal might have easily seen us win or draw. In the final game, we played Calderwood CS. In a tight first half they just shaded it 1-0 with Harley D making some great saves to keep us in the contest. In the second half, too many sausage sandwiches and canned drinks took their toll and we shipped further goals to a team that finished with accuracy and precision. Well done to our dozen players who, for the most part, never gave up trying and played with fairness, team spirit and good humour. Captain, Myles C, epitomised this, as did Caleb M and James M, as they kept 'plugging away' for the cause. Elsie P was our team's 'energiser bunny' as she rarely stopped running and tackling throughout. Thomas HS threw himself into everything (and everyone!) headlong, as he tried plenty of runs upfield.

Primary School Cup Netball Gala Day

After a few weeks of training and planning, a group of excited and enthusiastic Stage 2 and 3 girls arrived at Park Rd Netball Complex on a warm and sunny Tuesday (25 May 2021) ready to play against other schools in the area.

NCS Stars Green (Stage 2) played 5 games, NCS Stars Pink (Stage 3) played 4 games and NCS Stars Blue (Stage 3) played 5 games. All girls played really well and put in their best effort all day. They faced tough competition from other schools but they did not give up and always had a smile on their faces (even when they did not win the game), ready to play in the next game.

NCS Stars Blue managed to go through to the final on the day but, unfortunately, they did not win the game. In a way they all ‘won’ because they all played their best on the day! We would like to thank Mr Brad Davies and Mrs Samantha Holloway for being our parent helpers on the day. We would also like to thank four secondary students – Abigail H, Kathy S, Charlotte S and Adele G - for their assistance in training the girls and umpiring on the day.

Stage 2 Metro Cup Football

It was a big day for our Years 3 and 4 Metro Cup team. After a few weeks of training and more training and waiting for the big day to finally arrive, most of that boundless energy got expended in a good way as we played four games against some of our South Coast Christian School neighbours.

We started well with an excellent team performance against Southern Highlands Christian School (SHCS). It was pretty tricky trying to score in the tiny little goals on field 4 but SHCS managed to surprise us with a goal against the run of play to get them rolling. To our boys' credit, they didn’t 'freak out', but kept on passing the ball around well. This teamwork was rewarded when Will P got our first goal. It wasn’t long before Mitchell (2) & Will A added to the scoresheet to give us a fairly convincing 4-1 win.

Next up for us was Cedars and they are typically 'the team to beat', so there was a little bit of trepidation in the ranks prior to kickoff. I think they may have taken us a little bit lightly while we seemed to grow an extra leg as we scored first in the bigger goals on field 3. And we just kept on scoring. Mitchell bagged 4 goals and was very strong all round the park for us, with Swapan getting on the scoresheet as well. Special mention for Mitchell’s last goal. After numerous long range efforts, this one from 30+ metres was convincing. I don’t think too many people could believe it - especially the shell-shocked Cedars keeper. Final score 5-1.

Lunch went down well, hearty thanks to the NCS Food Tech helpers on the BBQ and canteen.

Game 3 was against Calderwood, back on field 4 with the tiny goals. Scoring in those things was again looking like it might be a rare feat, but somehow we managed to score 4 times with some excellent team work. Final score 4-0.

Some tired little bodies took the field for our last game of the day against Cordeaux. I think there may have been a combination of fatigue, cockiness and too much pre-occupation with 'going to Penrith'. Final score 0-3. That final result saw us drop from the top of the table and added a bit of theatre to the final placings for the day with Cedars, Cordeaux and NCS all finishing on equal points.

The top two teams will now progress to the next level of competition. Thanks to our goalscoring feats in the earlier games, our goal difference 'for and against' meant we ended up in second place behind Cedars. So it looks like we might be going to Penrith after all. Well done!

The boys were great: Michael M and Sam L who alternated for us as keeper and defenders, Noah C, Will A, Toby G, Swapan, Noah S, Will P, Boyd, Mitchell.

Thanks to Nathan from Peak who came and supported the boys and helped get them going. To Mr Parker who did a lot of the organising before, during and after the event, and managed to coach the Stage 3 team as well. All in a day’s work for him.

Big thanks to all the parents who came and supported, encouraged, fed, watered, cared for, consoled at various times during the day. Priceless.

Primary State Cross Country

Our Primary Cross Country team competed admirably at this year's State event. After a hiatus during 2020, the team returned to the Equestrian Centre at Seven Hills in Sydney to compete against all NSW Christian Schools.

Sixteen students who qualified at the South Coast Zone event attended. Highlights were the top 50 results for Elsie P (6 - qualifying for CIS State), Mitchell P (16), Caleb M (17), Toby G (19), Myles C (37), Flynn S (38). Each age group included at least 100 runners, so these places are an excellent result.

Congratulations also to: Sienna S, Summer S, Jada B, Bridget C, Mischa T, Callum B, Jacob P, Thomas H-S, Mikha M and Tyler B-D-C. Well done to all our students who competed and supported each other in a sporting manner.
