WHERE CHILDREN LOVE TO BE

I AM GRATEFUL FOR...

Our amazing staff for how quickly they have managed to drop everything and pivot on the spot back into remote and flexible learning again. They are such hardworking, dedicated professionals and I cannot be more thankful for their tireless efforts and flexibility in supporting your children.

I am pleased to introduce to the SMPPS Community a new addition to our team, Sonya Branca. Sonya will be Acting Assistant Principal for Term 3, and you can say hello to Sonya on Mondays and Fridays.

INTRODUCTING ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, SONYA BRANCA

My name is Sonya Branca. I will be working at South Melbourne Park PS as the Assistant Principal on Mondays and Fridays during Term 3 2021.

I have been in education for about 30 years, having taught across many areas in metropolitan Melbourne. I am currently the Assistant Principal at Brighton Primary School and have been for the last 6 years. I have held a leadership position at an International School in Italy and look forward to being a part of the South Melbourne Park Primary School community.

I live in the SE suburbs with my husband and 2 adult children.

I enjoy the simple things in life and relish time with family and friends.

FRIENDSHIP TREE!

Once again, Anna has completely outdone herself with our new friendship tree cover! Thank you so much Anna, the kids love it. The theme has been spot on with the cold days we have had lately as well.

BREAKFAST CLUB

When we are back on site face to face Breakfast Club will be continuing. This is considered an essential service and will continue to run whenever we are on site. We would love to see more of our students coming and having a good sit down breakfast. If you would like to volunteer to help out please email south.melbourne.park.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

VISITORS POLICY AND UNIFORM POLICY

Last term our sub-committees for School Council reviewed and refined both the Visitors Policy and the Uniform Policy to make these clearer for our community. You can find these on our website and via the links below:

NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA ON SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH A DISABILITY (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school, or find out more by reading the NCCD fact sheet for parents and carers.
