Learning and Teaching

Staff Professional Learning

We have a strong learning culture here at St John's for not only students but staff also. Staff are active in establishing an environment that maximises professional learning and practice opportunities. They monitor their own professional learning needs and align them to the learning needs of students. They continue to seek ways to improve their own practice and to share their experience with colleagues, skillfully mentoring each other, using activities that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others. Each staff member has a Professional Learning Plan in which they identify their professional learning needs, set goals, select and undertake learning, apply and refine their learning before evaluating the overall impact.

Each Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon St John's staff attend Professional Learning Meetings (PLMs). These PLMs relate directly to our School Improvement Plan and provide a rich opportunity for staff to collaborate and learn from each other,  explore shared beliefs and understandings, analyse student data, develop curriculum content knowledge and improve teaching and learning practice. PLMs are facilitated by our leadership team members across all spheres: Religious Dimension, Leadership & Management, Student Wellbeing, School Community and Learning & Teaching.

The Victorian Government is looking for 4,000 new teachers to support and inspire the next generation.  The Teach the Future campaign has been launched to encourage people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to enrol in teaching courses.

Further information about the campaign can be found on the Teach the Future webpage and in the Teacher Recruitment ‘Teach the Future’ 2021 Stakeholder Kit.
