Digital Safety and STEM

@ St Louis

Following on from our Parent session with Inform and Empower we wanted to share this blog post from Carley, outlining some suggestions around finding a balance with screen time.

As a school, we recognise that during this time of remote learning, our children will be spending much more time in front of a screen than they normally would. One interesting point raised by Carley is how we actually classify screen time depending on what children are doing. In the video below, she talks about this and makes connections to the idea of classifying screen time using the S.P.I.I.E Model.

We were also given some great resources that parents can access to help support the conversations that may occur about such areas as gaming.

One of our whole school focuses this term is learning in science. Helping our students make connections between what science is, its purpose, and why people pursue it is really important. We also encourage them to consider is its connection to other learning areas.

STEM promotes the idea that science can be linked to technology, engineering principles, and maths. If this is something that sparks interest in your child or within your family, we wanted to share some key resources that could be used at home to engage you in rich conversations about science.
