From the Library Captains

This year, our Library Captains will be bringing you a series of interviews with staff about their reading. This week Imogen and Eloise interviewed Ms Schoelfield:

Q: What book are you currently reading?

A: I am currently reading a graphic novel version of the book 1984 as it’s a year 11 text, although it isn’t my favourite!

Q: What is your favourite book/author/genre?

A: My favourite book used to be Harry Potter, but now it’s Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguo.

Q: What book is especially meaningful to you?

A: Probably Saving Francesa by Melina Marcetta. It’s a book about a girl whose mother fall into a deep depression, and so she has to step in to help out with her family.

Q: Do you prefer your stories as books, audiobooks, ebooks or podcasts?

A: Ebooks and audiobooks probably, as I don’t really have much time to read nowadays!

Q: Do you have any books you would recommend?

A: For teenage readers, probably the Eragon series by Christopher Paolini.

Harmony Week

Harmony Week is a week to celebrate our cultural diversity. Harmony Week is held every year in the week that contains 21 March, which is the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It began in 2000, and has been celebrated every year since. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of background, appearance, or language.

Orange is the colour to represent Harmony Week, as it traditionally signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. Australians can choose to wear something orange during Harmony Week to show their support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia. Australia’s cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths and represents who we are as a nation.

Staff and students were invited to hold up placards to show their support.
