Year 12

Students vs. Teachers

In the first two weeks of March, a Soccer Tournament was held for the Year 12 cohort. Four teams competed for the chance to face off against the Year 12 teacher team, The Wantirminators

Team A and Team B were the first to face off. It was an intense first game with Team B winning after a penalty shootout. Next, Team C and Team D played against each other, with Team C moving on to the Finals to verse Team B. The competition was fierce between Team B and Team C in the student Grand Final as they competed to be the ultimate winners. In the end Team B earned the title of being the winners of the Student Soccer Tournament, however there was still great anticipation towards versing the teachers the following week.

The Wantirminators consisted of the Senior School leading teachers Mr Black, Mr Pearson, Mr Hoogkamer, as well as Year 12 Year Level Leaders, Mr Pollock and Miss Fonda. It was a hot day, but it was fantastic to see so many staff and students in the crowd cheering on both teams. Mr Horner was the star of the game scoring two goals for The Wantirminators. Mr Kos also deserves a special mention for his outstanding goal keeping skills. Overall, it was a fantastic day with good sportsmanship, positive vibes, and some healthy competition.

The following was written by Year 12 Sports Captain, Kyle Coughlin:

After a close call to a Mr. Horner Hattrick, a hint of bias umpiring and an exciting finish to the game, neither the students nor teachers managed to come out on top as the game finished with a draw (2-2). After the game a couple of the students had a few things to say; Zarak Durrani (the team’s striker) was “pleased with the effort displayed by both sides” and loved how “the teachers got involved and gave us students a good run around.”  Daniel Dadrasan (the Team Captain) believed that his team “worked hard to make it to the final round” and believed that during the “showdown” between the teachers and students “Mr. Rogers (the umpire) would’ve made quite the earning from the game.”
