Wide World of Maths

Special Event

This week, our Year 9/10 Maths Elective class 'Wide World of Maths' had the privilege of hearing Special Guest, Professor Sidney Morris, talk about his research and the applications of pure Mathematics. Professor Morris is a Mathematician who, amongst many other things, was the Head of the School of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Ballarat and continues to undertake research and write.

Professor Sidney Morris told us all about his career in being a Mathematician which saw his teaching in many Universities throughout Australia as well as one in Wales, England and a college in Florida, USA. He also told us about all the books he has written about Mathematics before donating one to our school Library. Throughout the time that Professor Morris spoke to us, he gave challenging questions to make us think. Overall, I would like to thank him for coming out and speaking with us which allowed for us to have a new experience.

Natalie Walker, Yr 10

Professor Morris, finished his visit by generously donating one of his books to the College Library. It was a fantastic experience!
