NAPLAN 2023
National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The assessments are undertaken every year and cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. From 2023, the NAPLAN test window will move to mid-March.
Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program and reminding them to simply do their best. Some familiarisation and explanation of NAPLAN is useful to help students understand and be comfortable with the format of the tests. Teachers will ensure students are familiar with the types of questions in the tests and will provide appropriate support and guidance.

Thursday 16th March 9:30am - READING

Year 5 NAZARETH ‘TASTER’ DAY
On Monday 6th March, all of the Year 5 went to Nazareth College for a Taster Day. Why is it called a Taster Day? It gives the Year 5’s an opportunity to ‘taste’ what it’s like to be a secondary school student by spending a day at Nazareth College.
We were divided into 3 groups and each group had a timetable, showing us which lessons we were going to participate in. Activities included TEXTILES, SCIENCE, ART, ITALIAN, and PERFORMING ARTS, among others. Every group had 3 lessons for the day and Nazareth College teachers and some students ran the lessons.
We all enjoyed our time at Nazareth College and were lucky enough to take home something we made. For instance, in Textiles, students tie-dyed a tote bag to take home. In Science, students made a terrarium to take home and in Italian, students made a Carnevale mask to take home, just to name a few.
We thank the Nazareth College teachers and students for giving us a ‘taste’ of secondary school.
