PREP

This week we are gearing up for our very first school sports on Friday and we are all very excited! The Preps have been practising all the different skills with Dan in their PE lessons and we think they are all Olympic Games material.

Don’t forget to dress your children in their sport colour on Friday. This not only brings a bit of school spirit and team cheer but also makes it easier for us to group the children at each event.

In literacy we are working on the sentence I can sit on my mat and pat Tip the cat. A lot of these words we have done in previous sentences as well as some new words too.

In maths we have started a new topic, statistics and probability. The Preps have been looking at how to collect data by asking their friends questions and then graphing their answers. The Preps also start a new program called Mathseeds. This is an electronic game that takes children through maths challenges focused on what we are learning in the classroom.

We cannot believe there is only one more week to go before holidays. Our little friends have made so much progress over the term and we are so proud of all their efforts over the last nine weeks!

GRADE 1/2

We have nearly reached the end of term and are beginning to look forward to the Easter break. However, we are still doing lots of learning and have plenty of fun days ahead.

Tomorrow we have our Sports Day at the Lake Oval. We have been practising the activities and our relays. It should be a really fun day! Families are very welcome to come down and visit. It will begin at 10:30am.

This week both year levels have been continuing to look at place value in maths. The Year 1's have been looking closely at number lines and ordering numbers.

Next week, the students will be participating in Holy Week activities. On Monday, as a whole school, we will be celebrating Holy Week by participating in a procession of Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday. On Tuesday the Preps, Year 1's and Year 2's will be a part of Holy Week Craft rotations. We are all so excited to be spending time together!

GRADE 3/4

Last week, Judy and Jodie’s class led the school in prayer at their Prayer Gathering based on the concept of Lent and Growth. They did a wonderful job with their reading, singing and reflecting on their learning in RE from over the term.

As you know, the Year 3 and Year 4 classes are heading off on camp next week. If your child is having any worries or concerns, please let us know so we can help ease their concerns. Please be aware that the students need to provide their own sleeping bag for camp. We ask that you let the teacher know if they don’t have a sleeping bag.

Tomorrow is our St Mary’s school sports. This will be held at the Lake Oval. Students can dress up in their house colours and will enjoy a BBQ for ‘Fun Food’.

We have been learning about the events of Holy Week and next Monday we will participate in a whole school prayer gathering, focusing on the events of Holy Week. Year 3 and 4 will lead the Holy Thursday (Last Supper) part of the prayer.

Next Thursday is the end of term and we will finish at 2:15 pm. Students will arrive back from camp before 2:15 and will be able to be collected from school earlier. Please keep an eye on Dojo on the day to be notified of our return time to school.

GRADE 5/6

The term is very quickly coming to a close. The children in Grade 5 and 6 have worked diligently this term and should be proud of their efforts and how they have set the year up for their best learning.

Congratulations and well done to all students who participated in the Interschool Athletics today. I’m sure everyone represented the school with their best efforts and sportsmanship.

Tomorrow we are excited to spend the day together with the other grades for our school sports day. This is always a fantastic day for the Grade 5s and 6s to demonstrate their leadership skills by the way they role model, assist and encourage others throughout the day. Parents are welcome during the day so check the timetable for more information on particular events happening throughout the day.

In our classroom learning, the students have been very busy wrapping up their Term 1 learning. They have been moving through Addition and Subtraction skills during Maths time. In R.E. this week, we have been preparing the children to present Good Friday to our whole school in our Holy Week celebration this coming Monday. The children have illustrated pictures of the Stations of the Cross to share with the other grades and will step them through the day of Jesus’ death in a reverent and respectful way. Last week for Inquiry we welcomed Lucy Blaire, a Grade 1 parent, who graciously shared with us the ins and outs of her online clothing business. She shared the creative process, how she runs her business and shared some samples of her clothing with the group. The children were very engaged in her presentation; no doubt there will be some budding entrepreneurs or fashion designers following her presentation! We will be wrapping up our business unit in Inquiry next week.

Looking forward to finishing up the term on a high next week. Have a great weekend everybody!
