Principal's Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

Over the past few weeks the children have been learning about Holy Week and the events leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus. This Sunday we celebrate Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. One of the common questions that children ask at this time of the year is “Why did Jesus die on the cross?” An easy and appropriate answer we use is “Because he loved us.” This can be somewhat confusing for children, so I would like to share with you an explanation that may give you a deeper understanding and help you explain it further with your children;

Essentially, this simply means that Jesus’ resurrection was a victory over the power of sin (evil) and of death. Jesus’ resurrection destroys the power of evil in our lives (such as that of the Romans who crucified him); evil is no longer dominant. Jesus’ resurrection also demonstrates his ability to provide for our own resurrections at some point after death. So death is no longer final and it loses its terrible fear and control over us.

Loving God,

We know that because of the great love Jesus had for you,

and because of the love you have for us,

Jesus completed your will,

and through his death, gave us a way home to you.

This is our sure hope.

Send your Spirit upon us that we might truly be people

who live the salvation Jesus gave us.

We ask this through your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen

Reconciliation

Forgiveness is something we focus on during this time of Lent as we prepare for Easter. Congratulations to all the children who received the sacrament of Reconciliation on Tuesday and best wishes to those who will receive it tonight and Saturday morning. Tuesday was a very prayerful occasion and I would like to thank and congratulate all families on their participation in the program over the past month, helping the children prepare for this important sacrament, while continuing their lifelong faith journey.

School Sports

This week we have been busy preparing for this year’s school sports to be held at the Lake Oval tomorrow. The children have been preparing well over the past few weeks, practising their sprints, relays and tabloid events. A big thank you to Dan and our sports and sustainability leadership team, for organising the event. The weather is looking good so it promises to be a fun filled day.

Prime Sports Drink

It has been brought to my attention that some children are bringing the latest new sports drink, Prime to school. This is a product that is extremely high in caffeine and sugar and has written on the label that it is ‘not fit for consumption under 15 years.’ Could I ask that parents monitor this and refrain from allowing their children to bring this product to school.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Andre and Amanda DeLorenzo on the birth of Macey Eve last week. A beautiful baby sister for Cooper and Micah. We look forward to having Andre back on staff at various stages throughout the year.

Congratulations also to Anna Hinkley and her husband Jason Murrell on the arrival of Will Thomas. A beautiful baby brother for Ruby. We look forward to having Anna back on staff later in the year also.

Finally, congratulations to Holly Bray-Low and Andrew Burns on the arrival of Piper. A beautiful baby sister for Isabelle Cartledge (Gr 3 Elissa) and Harvey.

Best Wishes

Best wishes go out to our Grade 1 teacher Kascha, who will marry her partner Ian over the holiday break. We wish them well for a long and happy life together.

Movie Tickets

A reminder to all families with the holidays coming up, that discounted movie tickets can be purchased from the school office.

Long Service Leave

Tomorrow will be my last day of the term. I will be on leave, returning week 2 of next term. If the need arises, please refer any matters to Judy, Jodie or Paula in my absence.

A big thank you and congratulations to everyone on what has been a great start to the year. Your ongoing support for our school is appreciated and we look forward to an exciting 3 terms ahead.

Easter is a wonderful time to relax and spend quality time with family and friends. Have a safe and happy Easter and I look forward to seeing everyone on my return next term.

Enjoy the rest of your week.
