Celebrating Neurodiversity Week
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences. It aims to celebrate differences and empower every individual.
Last week all staff including both teachers and education support staff participated in professional development workshop focusing on understanding and supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Key strategies for working with a students in a classroom setting with ASD were examined and available resources explored. The importance of understanding the individual needs, interests and social challenges of ASD students was discussed with a focus on how the curriculum can be adapted and differentiated.
Further professional development will be planned for Term 2.
SMILE SQUAD- Dental hygiene
This week your child received a free oral health promotion dental pack from Smile Squad Smile containing toothpaste, a toothbrush and information regarding Smile Squad. Smile Squad is the Victorian Government’s school dental program. Smile Squad will offer free dental care to all Victorian primary and secondary government school students. This initiative is led by the Department of Health (DH) and Dental Health Services Victoria (DHSV), with input from the Department of Education and Training (DET). Smile Squad services are provided by community dental agencies.
What does Smile Squad include? All services below will be available free of charge to all Victorian government school students. Each school will be visited by Smile Squad who will provide a free oral health check-up to each student.
- Services provided: examination, x-rays when required, oral health and dietary advice, coaching and preventive interventions, including application of fluoride varnish.
The date for Smile Squad to visit St.Kilda Park Primary in 2023 is not yet confirmed.
