RIDE TO SCHOOL DAY - Friday 24th March

National Ride2School Day is taking place this Friday and SKiPPS will be taking part and encouraging everyone to ride or scoot to school. The day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel and one of the best days on the school calendar.

It is a day full of fun and colour where students, teachers and parents discover the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for the future.

Students are encouraged to ride their bikes or scooters to school on this day.

Please park your bikes and scooters in the following areas:

Foundation: Bike Racks at back gate

Year 1/2: Beside blue basketball court along the fence

Year 3/4: Behind Year 3/4 classrooms

Year 5/6: Behind library

They will participate in a bicycle circuit and enjoy some fresh fruits and veggies. Foundation students will also get the chance to ride the smoothie bike and enjoy their very own berry smoothies.  If you want to decorate your helmet with recycled materials to help celebrate the event, go for it!

Remember part way is okay. If you can’t ride the whole way, why not try parking the car a few blocks from school and walk, ride or scoot the rest.

Or if you live really close to school, why don’t you clock up some km and ride around the oval a couple of times before school.

Check out the bicycle network website for tips on bike maintenance and road rules or get involved with the St Kilda Bike Kitchen to learn how to fix your bike.

They’ll be outside the Port Phillip EcoCentre for another Repair Café, 2-5pm, every 2nd Sunday of the month.

Working Bee Thank you

Last Saturday was our first working bee of the year and I need to thank the huge number of parents and students who found the time to come along on a hot and windy morning.

We were so impressed by the enthusiasm and attitude of the people in attendance and we got through the long list of jobs with no problems - we hope that you noticed the difference when you arrived at school on Monday!

We hold a working bee each term and these allow us to keep our school grounds and buildings looking good and providing a safe environment for learning. Without the support of parents rolling up their sleeves and getting involved, we would not have such a lovely school for your children to enjoy.

Many thanks.

Year 3/4 Choir at Assembly

This term our new Performing Arts teacher Michael Roper has taken a different approach to our school choirs.  Rather than having one school choir that operates over the whole year, he will instead run a number of different choirs for short periods of time during the year who work towards a particular project or performance.

This term he has worked with students from Year 3/4 on a Friday afternoon and the response from the children has been amazing with so many volunteering to get involved.

They will be performing at our school assembly this Friday and we invite you to come along and enjoy their hard work.

Parent Gala Night - St Kilda Town Hall

Alongside our fete, jazz in the Park and Celebration of the Arts, a major social and fundraising event in our school choir is our annual Trivia/Gala Night. This event is a parents-only evening of entertainment, live music and food and drink held at the St Kilda Town Hall.

This year the event will take place on Saturday 27th May. More details will follow soon but please book this date into your diaries now, book a babysitter and get ready to let your hair down.

Run Club - Help Needed

With the departure of the wonderful Luke Jones at the end of 2022, our popular Friday morning Run Club is on hiatus.

For those unfamiliar, Run Club operated before school and all students and families were invited to come along and complete laps of the oval, recording how many they completed. Over the course of the year, Luke kept a record of the laps and we celebrated these achievements at assemblies.

Whilst quite straightforward, the club encouraged physical activity and was a great way to start a Friday morning.

We would love to see this get up and running again this year and are looking for a parent or carer to take this role on. We would be happy to share information about exactly what is involved in this and support someone to get Run Club back underway.

Readings St Kilda & SKiPPS

Living in St Kilda, we are so lucky to have Readings Acland Street on our doorstep, a wonderful independent bookshop that has long been a friend and supporter of our school.

The team down at Readings have made the very kind offer that they will donate 10% of all purchases made at the shop to our School Library Fund. All you need to do is identify as a St Kilda Park person when you make a purchase and they will pass these funds on to allow us to buy additional books for our school.

In addition, they will also run a 'shopping afternoon' once each term where the school will get the 10% rebate and the parents will get a 10% discount on all kids books that afternoon.
