Primary Industries Excursion

Year 11 Primary Industries students were invited by Chris, Trudy and Nick Fanning to "Wynlea", their property at Deniliquin.  Here the students learned about inspecting machinery for plant, animal and soil materials and the safe operation of machinery, including pre and post operational checks.  We were very grateful for the hospitality and expertise of the Fannings and parent volunteer Michelle Jettner.

Deniliquin Show: Student Report

During the past term at Moama Anglican Grammar, Agriculture and Primary Industries students prepared for the Deniliquin Show and learned about cattle. This involved feeding, trimming, leading and washing the animals. This provided the students with the knowledge about how to properly handle them. The heifers: Princess, Duchess, Peggy, Silvermine, Design, Whynot, Glamour and Maida were wonderful and provided an unforgettable experience for the students.

On the 4th of March 2023, 18 Moama Grammar Agriculture students attended the Deniliquin Show. The students competed in the dairy cattle section, participating in junior judging, junior and senior handling and heifer classes. Some major highlights were Darcy Parsons qualifying to compete in the state final of junior dairy cattle judging at Sydney Royal Easter Show and Lexie Heinrich as a reserve in this final. Another highlight Maida received an Honourable Mention in the Dairy Heifer Championship class (paraded by Fergus McGillivray), and Aleisha Moon placed second in the highly competitive Junior Handlers’ class, parading Eurarie Delightful Silvermine 5th.

We would like to say a big thank you to the teachers who accompanied the students on the day:  Mrs Catt, Ms Paterson, Miss Griffin, Mr Downward and Mrs Smith. We would especially like to thank Miss Griffin for being up bright and early to lend a hand to transport cattle to the show and Mr & Mrs Smith for providing the heifers for the students.

We would like to also acknowledge the Jettner family of Connect Irrigation for sponsoring the new vests for the Agriculture students to wear on excursions and Southern Stockfeeds for sponsoring caps and bags of calf feed at the show.

Science Around the School

Year 6 Science

Students worked in small groups to design a ‘Mouse Trap’,  a sequence of constructions which displayed at least three conversions of energy. Success was achieved if the ‘mouse’, a ping-pong ball, landed in the trap - a cup of water.  Students demonstrated enormous enjoyment as they put together racing tracks, dominoes, strings and springs to make sure that the mouse was eventually trapped.

Year 9 Forensic Science

Here, the Year 9s are attempting to 'lift' anonymous fingerprints from beakers, and then identify the owner of the prints from a class data base.

Year 10 Physics

Year 10 are investigating the Law of Conservation of Energy in their second topic for Term 1; attempting to pinpoint the energy conversions occurring throughout a ball drop.

Stage 1 Assembly

Year 4 Garden Club

The co-curricular Garden Club runs every Friday at lunchtime for Grade 3-4 students. With all the sunshine we have been having, students have been harvesting plenty of tomatoes over the past two weeks. Produce collected is being used in our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program and taken home for families to share.

Year 4s in the Kitchen

Mrs Pinson's Year 4 Stephanie Alexander class made a north African beetroot and cumin dip with a yummy homemade flat bread. They shared this meal in a traditional Moroccan style picnic setup where they also learned about expressions, language and cultures such as Arabic.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Years 3 and 4 students get the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. So that parents can plan ahead, we are providing all of the recipes for this term, as well as an information sheet about substitutions for those who with allergies or individual dietary requirements.

Please see the below PDFs for recipes and information regarding substitution ingredients.
