Primary School

Newsletter Term 1 Week 8

It was great to attend the P&F meeting on Friday to discuss some of the upcoming events and meet our passionate parents who contribute to the wellbeing of the school community. Research suggests that having parental involvement in schools has many benefits. Good parent-school partnerships are one of the best ways to support children’s learning, development and wellbeing. We know that children whose parents are involved in school:

  • perform better at school
  • settle better into school programs
  • feel valued and important because their parents are taking an interest in their lives
  • develop positive social skills by watching parents and school staff interact respectfully
  • have better social, physical and emotional wellbeing.

Parents who are involved at school:

  • can share their child’s strengths and interests with staff and suggest learning opportunities to build on these
  • feel empowered to raise concerns and negotiate solutions with staff
  • experience less stress, because they know they can work with staff on concerns about their child’s learning or development.

Parents are members of the community too. Through parental involvement, the school gets to know the community better. This means the school is more likely to offer services that are relevant to the community and that improve community wellbeing.

Easter Celebrations

We invite parents, grandparents, carers or significant others to join us for our annual Easter Celebrations on Thursday 6 April (last day of Term). We will start with an Easter Bonnet Parade on the Undercover Basketball court at 9:00am, followed by Easter craft activities in the classroom. For morning tea, families are invited to join the P&F for coffee/tea and hot cross buns near the Multi-Purpose Hall in the Primary area of the School. After recess, parents are invited to attend the Easter Service in the multi-purpose hall. We look forward to a great morning and the opportunity to connect with our families.

Parent Volunteer Induction

For those looking at becoming a Registered Volunteer at our School, a Volunteer Induction has been scheduled for Monday 27 March at 10:30am in the Primary Office.

Year 7 Open Evening

Our Year 5 and Year 6 students are invited to join us for the Year 7 Open Evening where they can meet key Secondary staff and explore our Secondary facilities as they are led through activities and classroom tours. Please make sure you register your attendance. https://www.moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au/enrolments/starting-secondary-school/

Learn to Swim Program

Due to illness of staff at the swimming pool, the Learn to swim program for our Kindergarten and Year 1 students unfortunately had to be cancelled. We are currently working with the pool to find alternative swimming dates for our students. Parents will be notified as soon as dates are confirmed and locked in. Whilst disappointing for the students, we thank everyone for their understanding and patience with this. Our Year 3 students look forward to start their swimming lesson next week.

Life Education Van

Every second year, we have the pleasure to have the Life Education Van on our school site to provide students with a unique experience to develop strategies and practice the skills required to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Below is a brief outline of the programs students have been involved in.

Kindergarten and Year 1; Harold’s Friend Ship

Year 2; Growing Good friends

Year 3 and Year 4; All Systems Go

Year 5 and Year 6; Relate, Respect, Connect

Reflection by Lizette H and Grace P

Year 2 saw Healthy Harold on Thursday the 23rd of March. We learnt how to be a good friend and that we need to be kind to each other. Also, we learnt what FRIENDS stand for: Fair, Respect, Include, Encourage, Never hurt, Don’t yell and Share. It was great to see Harold the giraffe and we thought that he was cheeky. It was fun, and we had a great time!

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

Some Moama Anglican Grammar staff and student leaders will attend this year’s Teddy Bears Picnic on Sunday 2 April at the Moama Rec Reserve, Main Oval in Moama. Everyone is invited to come along and we look forward to connecting with you at this free fun family event.

Cross Country

All Primary students will be involved in the Cross-Country carnival on Wednesday 5 April starting at 1:30pm on Brick Alley Oval (Secondary side of the School). Parents and guardians are invited to join in the fun by cheering students on or joining their child/ren with their run. We look forward to seeing you there.

Stage 2 Citizenship Awards

Starting this year, Stage 2 staff have introduced Citizenship Awards for students which are handed out at the Stage 2 Assembly. These are to recognise students who have demonstrated kindness, respect for others and have been an all-round fantastic member of the School community. Someone that goes above and beyond to make people feel welcomed, safe and cared for. The award is peer nominated which allows students an opportunity to recognise those people around them who are great citizens of our School community, people who are role models to them and others in their class. It allows students to show gratitude for the consistent small things that someone does to make their day happier.

Congratulations to the following recipients:

Stage 2 Citizenship Awards

Shriya Rayas
Jack McKay
Quenelda Knowles-Mulholland
Justin Baky

Marcelle Cordner

Community Anzac Day Services

In preparation for Anzac Day, we would like parents to share with us if they are planning to participate in a local Community Anzac Day service. It is our aim to have at least one staff/student representative at each local service.

Please email psreception@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au with your intention. A separate note with details and information for those volunteering their time will be shared soon.

Message from the Office

We would like to remind parents who utilise the Primary carpark to do so with caution. Please observe the speed limits and be mindful of others when parking and reversing. We appreciate your support in keeping our students safe.
