LANGUAGE CENTRE
Language Centre Excursion to the City
We have 9 students in our Language Centre, from Vietnam, Korea, China and Japan.
To introduce them to Melbourne, Mr Agg, manager of the International Students Program, organised a day’s visit to the city, acting as our tour guide.
The students prepared for the excursion by viewing and discussing some key places they would be seeing, and by ensuring their Myki cards were ready. During the day, the students practised using the bus, tram and train, including the City Loop. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to see some amazing places, get to know each other and practise their English skills.
The Queen Victoria Market was a highlight, especially the hot jam donuts recommended by Mr Agg. He pointed out a number of important places to the students, including Parliament House, the Treasury Building and the Department of Education where their applications to be here were processed.
In Melbourne Central the students had access to a range of lunch options, and were serenaded by a number of talented pianists who took advantage of the piano set up nearby.
The visit to the Shrine of Remembrance was also an important part of our visit.
Coincidentally, we visited the Eternal Flame exactly 69 years, to the day, since it was first lit. The students were interested and respectful in our tour of the Shrine, including the museum inside.
Despite the weather, students and their teachers had a great day.
We thank Mr Agg for being a knowledgeable host and tour guide, and for the Language Centre staff for their support in getting this excursion going.
