From the Principal

Dear Parents, Staff, Students and Friends

This term is flying by with many highlights, providing plenty of reasons to celebrate all that is great about Frankston High School.  Students have been engaged in a variety of learning activities in and beyond the classroom which certainly have catered for the diversity of student interests at our school.

Working Bee Keeps Grounds Looking Great

In cold, windy but dry conditions, a significant amount of weeding and mulching was completed around the Synthetic Playing Field on the 7-10 Campus, along with maintenance of the Japanese Garden in the Senior Campus.  Many thanks to Mr Glenn Davey and Mrs Anne Thomson who did a fantastic job organising a very successful working bee.  Thanks to parents, students and staff for their enthusiasm and energy.

The next Working Bee will be held on Sunday 20 October.

Yet Again Frankston High School District Swimming Champions!

One of the strongest Frankston High School Swimming teams ever blitzed the competition to allow our great school to become yet again District Swimming Champions.  This improvement in our swimming team is a result of the dedication and enthusiasm of our swim coaches, Semper Squad Leaders Mrs Carly MacDonald and Ms Kate Burgess.

Congratulations Helena!

Congratulations to Helena Herman (Year 10) who won gold and became State Champion in the 50m Butterfly and fourth in the 100m butterfly at the recent School State Swimming Championships.

Congratulations Declyn!

Declyn Tanner (Year 7) came 1st in the 12 years 800m at the TeamVic trials at Lakeside.  Well Done!

Frankston Anzac Dawn Service

I was very proud of our Frankston High School students. Thanks to Tavishek Sharma (Year 11) and Matilda Buralli (Year 11) for their special input into production and editing the film of our students reading biopics of former Frankston Anzacs.  This played before the Frankston Anzac Dawn Service.  It was appreciated by all those at the service.  Thanks also to Ms Georgina Long

Lest we Forget.

Sports Coordinators Have Athletes Achieving Nationally

It was terrific to have an incredible 10 students qualifying for and representing Frankston High School at the Australian Track and Field Championships in Sydney recently.   These students were placed from second in Australia to 14th in a huge range of events including, hurdles, relays, triple jump, long jump, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 3000m, 2000m steeple.  Also, Frankston High School had over 100 students participate in Cross Country winning every age division.  This is a phenomenal result! Each team has now qualified for SMR.  Many thanks to the ongoing coaching provided and support by Mrs Chloe Stevens, Mrs Carly MacDonald, Mr Steven Bonfadini, Mr Mal Burt, Ms Debra Anderson, Mrs Steph Heyes and Mrs Kylie Grech.

High Tea

Thanks to all parents and staff who supported the High Tea with their attendance.  Special thanks to Ms Michelle Beirouti who gave a great talk of her Oxfam experience and a very special thanks to Mr Russell Poole and Mrs Trudy Poole who hosted the event and to their many helpers.

Debutante Ball

Our recent Debutante Ball was a great celebration for our Year 11 students and their families.  Our young men and women were resplendent in their formal attire.  They had a wonderful evening and I am confident they will continue to be model citizens of our great city and the global community, making us all very proud.

Good luck for the State competition on 15 June.

HPV Teams race at Kilsyth

A huge thank you to Ms Libby Nicol, Mr Mick Andrews and Ms Emma Manks for training our teams and preparing our vehicles for the Kilsyth HPV Grandprix.  We had 11 students in two vehicles competing in this race.  Rohan Porter (Year 9) got the fastest time of the day which was a 01:44.75, this was a fantastic effort! We are indebted to these staff for providing our students with this great learning experience, where they learnt the importance of teamwork in very challenging circumstances.

Senior Concert Band:  A Highlight At Cranbourne Lions Band Festival

Our Senior Concert Band was a highlight of a day of performances yesterday at the Cranbourne Bands Music Festival.  Thanks to Mr Peter Sharp, who gave up most of Sunday to support our students in having such a terrific learning opportunity.  I was very proud of these enormously talented students.

School Production "Legally Blonde"

Full houses at all evening performances and the largest audience ever for a matinee, were provided with incredible highly talented performances of our 2019 musical production ‘Legally Blonde’.  This production was certainly a tribute to the many staff and students who devoted countless hours in rehearsals honing their talents to an exceptional level.  It has been great to see the happiness this event has brought to so many students.  Involvement in the production certainly engenders a positive sense of belonging to our great school.  It is a fantastic cross age learning experience where the older students care for their younger peers.  The theme of the production was about the importance of following your dreams.  Thanks to parents, friends and staff for your enthusiastic support of this production because you have helped our students live their dreams. Younger cast members are encouraged to keep on singing, dancing and acting because next year you will have the opportunity of performing in our brand new theatre.  Thanks to the Production Team who devoted countless hours after school, on weekends and during school holidays to support our students.

Mid Year Exams

Now is a time when midyear exams will soon begin.  VCE students should not only be completing all set work but need to constantly put time aside to revise their understandings and practice exam questions.  Students are reminded to seek extra help from their teachers to further support their learning.  I hope this edition of the newsletter finds everyone well and enjoying life apart from the colds everyone seems to be catching.
