Armidale Diocesan Gala Day - Stage 2 & 3 Students

Last Friday, 65 students from Stages 2 and 3 travelled to Tamworth to participate in Netball or Soccer at The Armidale Diocesan Gala Day. From 6am to 6pm the students, staff and parents put in a massive day in the heat which tested their stamina and endurance. We were so impressed by the level of skills and sportsmanship our students displayed and we commend them on how they conducted themselves in their chosen sport. Well done!

Netball (Mrs Barratt)

The Netball players thoroughly enjoyed their day and the 5 teams who competed came away with smiling faces with a few wins under their belts. Congratulations to the Open team consisting of Aila McBain, Paige Floyd, Danyela Bailey, Ella Bruce, Zoe McAllister, Fletcher Barratt and Lachlan Grob, who were undefeated all day and ended up winning the Grand Final against St Nicholas Tamworth. Thank you to our amazing parent helpers; Jane Van der Waal, Kristen Bailey, Sal Floyd, Emma Newberry, Stacey Cooke, Melissa Key who helped look after a team. We could not have managed this event without you. Mrs Fletcher, Miss McMeniman, Mrs Smith were also kept busy all day running to and from games and attending to hot and tired students. We really appreciate your help!

Soccer (Mrs Core)

We took 3 amazing teams to the Gala Day on Friday, consisting of 2 Junior and 1 Senior, in what was a great and unforgettable day! We displayed keen sportsmanship throughout and showed off our new and existing skills, whilst playing together as teammates. We were competitive and tried our best until the last kick, coming away with a few wins, losses and a draw. Thankyou to our wonderful parents who managed the teams, Adrianna Pietsch, Michelle McPhillips and Lucy Howarth, also a huge thankyou to the families who came down and cheered the children on from the sidelines, you were all fantastic and we really appreciate you! Mr Webel, Miss Condrick and Mrs Core were so proud of everyone for the way they represented themselves and their school, well done all of you!

Netball NSW Regional Finals

Our Stage 3 Competitive Netball team competed at the Netball NSW Schools Cup Regional Finals on Wednesday in Tamworth.

This team gels beautifully together. Their strength in attack enabled the ball to get to our goal end with our amazing shooters Piage Floyd and Ella Bruce combining to effortlessly score many goals for the day. Despite our attack being so strong, this team never tired in defence. They always fought hard to get the ball from the other team in all areas of the court. Danyela Bailey’s height in GK played havoc for the opposing team as she gained plenty of touches on the ball along with Lachlan Grob and George Claxton putting pressure on the opposing attacking players. The speed and determination from our midcourt players; Fletcher Barratt, Aila McBain, Abigail Pietsch and Zoe McAllister enabled the ball to get to our end quickly with some scrambling defence in the middle.

After convincingly winning all of their games in their pool they played in the semi finals against Gunnedah South. They won this game by 10 goals. This meant they played Ross Hill Public School in the Grand Final. This game was a nail-biter and all parents and coaches were on the edge of their seats the whole game. At full time it was a draw at 10 all. This meant we had to go into extra time with 2 x 3 minute halves. After the first half of extra time, we were down by 3 goals. We fought back to be even again in the second half, however in the last 30 seconds Ross Hill scored 2 goals which sealed their win. Congratulations to Ross Hill who also should be extremely proud of the game they played.

Miss McMeniman and I were so proud of these students in how they conducted themselves on and off the court. They never lost their cool and they always thanked and congratulated the opposing team along with the umpires who were surprised and grateful for this sportsmanship. Well done team, you should also be extremely proud of yourselves.

A massive thank you to Kristen Bailey and Sal Floyd who have enthusiastically been donating their time to prepare our students. Their skills and expertise in coaching children in netball is so valuable for our students and we, as a whole school community, are extremely grateful for everything you do for our school.

Also, Helen Smith and Katie McMeniman attended the finals to be the umpires from our school. These two were busy umpiring not only their original allocated games but also had to fill in for other schools who needed them. Helen also got the top job of umpiring some semi finals and a grand final. Thank you Helen and Katie!

Enjoy the school holidays. Everyone has earned a well deserved rest.
