Students are continuing to develop their social skills through learning how to play and interact with their peers.

We do request that students do not bring in toys or books from home as they can be lost or damaged. Please find below a summary of the learning that will take place in our class over the next fortnight.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • Literacy: We have recently concluded our integrated literacy and science unit on living things and the studentshave demonstrated an understanding through their learning. Over the remainder of the term, we will be turningour focus towards texts that explore weather and seasons. Students have shown a keen engagement withliteracy through utilising the support of interactive and concrete materials to support student learning andinterests. Moving forward, students will continue to build on their knowledge of the alphabet and sight words to construct simple sentences.
  • Numeracy: During numeracy we have been focusing on geometry. Students have been learning about the namesand features of 2D shapes. They have been working on constructing shapes using concrete material such asplaydough and sticks. Over the next fortnight students will continue to develop their understanding of 2D shapesbefore exploring 3D shapes. Over the next fortnight, students will be working on recognising and sorting 2D and3D shapes, learning the names of features such as faces, edges and corners as well as using informal units to measure the area and volume of a shape.
  • Religion: Throughout religion, students have been exploring how to be good friends with each other and how they can find a best friend in Jesus. Students have been practising Catholic values of turn-taking, serving othersand patience to help build these relationships. Students will continue this development as we begin to explore how we can be good neighbours to each other through looking at the Story of the Good Samaritan.
  • Creative Arts: In Art lessons, students are enjoying following step-by-step video modelling to create a drawing. They are being encouraged to express their creativity through painting using various mediums such as using forks, pom poms and rollers. Over the next fortnight, the art unit will be linked to science to support students with learning about the weather and seasons.

FOCUS FOR LEARNING & ACTIVITIES THIS FORTNIGHT:

  • Literacy: During our shared reading block, students have explored applying the letters F through to J in their everyday language and development of words. In line with the Science and Technology and PDHPE Syllabus outcomes, we have continued to incorporate the various unit themes; living things, our body and how it works and understanding the importance of our words. We have also worked extensively on our use of fine-motor when completing literacy activities and working through our daily words.
  • Numeracy: The main focus of numeracy for this fortnight is the mathematical strand of Measurement and Geometry. Students have been working on developing their skills of sorting and representations of two dimensional shapes, including circles, triangles, squares and rectangles, using everyday language. Over the next two weeks students will be learning more about 3D shapes and their features.

  • Religion: In religion, students have learnt about ‘respect’ , ‘sharing’ and ‘kind words’ through different stories and class discussions .This has helped them to understand the different values that all individuals should display. We have been continuing application of this learning through the way in which we play and interact with others on the playground.

  • Drumbeat: During DRUMBEAT, students have been learning how to create various sounds, including using tones within their voices and exploring manipulating volume with both their voices and the drums.. Over the next fortnight, students will be using simple notation via everyday language during these sessions. We will also be continuing to encourage students to develop unique patterns and replicate their peers’ patterns.

Stage 4

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have been developing our navigation skills through accessing the wider school community of St Luke’s College by going for “walk and talks” during our movement breaks. Students have started looking at personal hygiene during PDHPEas they are learning to take more responsibility for their own hygiene. A gentle reminder to regularly replenish personal care kits and to also send in a spare change of clothes and undergarments; as students engage in water play-based activities during some afternoons. We encourage parents/carers to access student learning portfolios via SeeSaw to view the Stage 4 students’ learning across all key learning areas. Please find below, a summary of the main activities that Stage 4 students have engaged in the last fortnight. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

FOCUS FOR LEARNING & ACTIVITIES THIS FORTNIGHT:

  • Literacy: In Literacy this fortnight, we have been using our reading skills to help us to understand what a good friend is and how we can develop positive thoughts using the Ninja book series. Students are also working towards reading comprehension, sight word recognition and letter-sound understanding (letter m and n) based on PM readers each day. During writing, students are working towards extending their sentence formations using sight words and descriptive language.
  • Numeracy: Numeracy strand focus is on Money and Time. Numeracy activities are planned to support students to understand Australian notes and coins, add up money and compare the value of groups of coins. We will continue to explore subtraction and money in the coming fortnight by looking at online food shopping and shopping catalogues.
  • PDHPE: Last week, with the beginning of Lent, students looked at why we celebrate Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. We are looking at different parables from the Holy Bible and seeing how we can implement the values that are shown through the stories at Arrunga. Students have been discussing and exploring the concept “Why it is important to be a good friend” using the parable of the Good Samaritan. Students received Ashes at Arrunga from Deacon Tony Hoban and enjoyed pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.
