Dookie Food & Fibre Day

On Friday 27th May Ms Boyko, myself and eighteen students attended the Food and Fibre Careers Day at the Dookie campus of the University of Melbourne. A vast array of workshops were available from genetics to Ag and Hort Technology, beef, sheep, dairy, viticulture, veterinary technology, bees, fly farming, pasture monitoring, horses, tractors and machinery, indigenous foods and environmental studies. Students chose three workshops to attend and then enjoyed participating in, or cheering on, our teams in the Young Farmers’ Challenge held at lunchtime.

We entered three teams with the Year 11 Team coming 3rd overall. Well done to all teams for having a go and enjoying the challenge. Twelve teams from various schools competed and our teams placed as follows:

Year 11 VCE Ag Hort Team (Brianna, Lissy, Efe, Jeet) – 3rd place (4.49.01) behind Cathedral College Wangaratta (4.09.15) and Cobram SC (4.31.07)

Year 10 Aggies (Mark, Oliver, Rory, Rachael) – 5th place with 5.15.80

Year 9 Sense of Humus (Ana, Gabby, Kaleigh, Jodie) – 8th place with 6.43.57

Tahira and Kaleigh were interviewed on the ABC Country Hour program which was broadcasting live form the event – well done, girls!
