Acting Head of Senior Years
Mr Rodney Latham
Our talented and passionate Year 12 students have been working hard over the past several weeks, sacrificing their Thursdays after school and lunchtimes, to practice worship songs for our Senior Year's chapel services.
As a way of celebrating our first face-to-face chapel service last week since the lockdown ended, the Senior Years Worship Band played 'Let go' by Hillsong and brought the service to life with their talent, right after an awesome message from Pastor Peter.
We are looking to expand, and are seeking students in Senior Year's, to bring their God-given gifts and talents to the Chapel platform. If you have a knack for singing, playing an instrument, or having a good time worshiping, then this is the place for you.
Please get in contact with Mrs Ibanez, if you would like any further information.
Mrs Eileen Ibanez
On 26 and 27 May, the Year 12 group took a mid-year break from normal classes to travel to Anglesea and spend an evening, overnight and day at Burnside Baptist Camp with the theme, “Reflect – Refresh – Reset.” Pastoral Care teachers - Mrs Ibanez, Mrs Kaur, Mrs Kane, Mr Mani along with Mr Baird and Mr Latham joined the students as adult supervisors and mentors.
This time away provided the Year 12 group opportunity to step away from their normal routine, to reflect upon the first half of Year 12 – considering what and how they have learned during that time. Students were divided into randomly-selected groups so that in:
Some personal time was provided, so students could enjoy the peace of the seaside camp, and the Australian bush and enjoy each other’s company. Teachers and students mingled through good conversation, fun games and an engaging game-show-like Trivia Time organised by Mrs Ibanez. All these things were designed to foster personal refreshment.
Overall, the reflection on the past 6 months, the refreshment currently pointed toward the reset for the next 6 months and finishing off Year 12 as well as possible. Once again, our GNLC students demonstrated their character and quality through their actions and willingness to work well with each other and the Burnside camp personnel. In this different place, different space, our students showed us how they are moving rapidly into the adult world with skills, positive attitudes and sensitive spirits – all things that encourage us as their teachers.
As another teacher put it:
It was a short period away, but such a rejuvenating time for Year 12s and their teachers. Apart from high ropes, group initiatives and mini-golf activities, students enjoyed trivia time, warm campfire, night walk and spent some time playing around with friendly kangaroos. While I think photos say so much, I can say some of the best moments are never captured by camera. By the end of the day, their feet were dirty, hair messy, but their eyes were sparkling.
