Junior School

Blessed Edmund Rice Liturgy

All the boys in Junior School were able to participate in a recorded Liturgy for Blessed Edmund Rice. It was a lovely way for the boys to celebrate the life of Blessed Edmund Rice and recognise our College’s heritage. Our usual Edmund Rice Day celebrations and activities have been postponed to later in the year.  I know the boys will be looking forward to that wonderful day of celebrations.

NAPLAN

Most of the online NAPLAN testing has been completed this week. We will finalise the testing next week. I am particularly proud of the boys for the way they conducted themselves during the tests and look forward to seeing their results later this year.

Year 6s Visit the Maritime Museum

Today, the Year 6s had the opportunity to participate in the Fremantle Maritime Museum program to support the work they are doing in History studies. Thank you to Mr Paljetak for organising this.

TOBA Assembly

Today was the first TOBA Assembly of the term. A big congratulations to Curtis Ieraci from 6 Blue, Jasper Nutt from 6 White and Roan Becker from 6 Green. Also thank you to Mr Rob Jurjevich for joining us and presenting the TOBA Awards.

Whole College Performing Arts Assembly

On Tuesday, 17 May, the Junior School boys will be participating in the whole school Performing Arts Assembly to be held in the Sports Centre. There is a lovely tradition where the new students to the College are piped into the Sports Centre at the commencement of the Assembly. As this is the first opportunity we have had to gather as a whole school, Year 4s, and all boys new to Trinity College will be piped in.

Year 6 Confirmation Retreat

The Year 6 boys will be participating in a Confirmation Retreat on Friday, 20 May. The retreat will be run by 24.7 School Ministry, a Catholic organisation who specialise in retreats, including retreats in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The day will commence with a Year 6 Mass in the Chapel before the boys adjourn to Gibney Hall. Boys will need to bring their own morning tea on the day. Lunch will be provided. Following this retreat, all Year 6 boys will receive a certificate from Trinity College acknowledging their preparations for the Sacrament. More information will be sent directly to Year 6 parents next week.

Free Rapid Antigen Test Program

You will have seen Mr O’Neill’s communication in regards to the State Government’s expansion of its free Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) program. As a requirement from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and in keeping with the WA Health Guidelines in relation to the distribution of these tests to primary students, parents are asked to collect their tests from their son’s classroom teacher between Monday 16-Wednesday 18 May from 8.15-8.30am, or 3.00-3.20pm. Due to winter sport training on Wednesday, parents of boys in Year 5 and 6 may collect the tests from the Junior School Library on that day.

Parent Liaison

This week the Junior School Parent Liaison meeting will be in the Board Room. Please note the minor time change to commence at 2.40pm.

Year 4 Hockey Carnival

It is very exciting for the Year 4s that their first carnival is coming up on Thursday, 19 May. They will be putting their developing Hockey skills into practice against Aquinas.  Mr Thompson will provide more details.

Sport Fixtures

Well done to the Year 5 and 6 boys participating in their sport fixtures against Wesley on Thursday on a cold and blustery afternoon.  We love your commitment and dedication to your sports. Next week it is TC vs Aquinas.

Prefects Corner

By Cameron Andrews and Matteo Redolatti

It was a full weekend of Mother’s Day celebrations and the Monster in the Maze production. We hope a few of you got the chance to see the show. It was a great experience and congratulations to the boys who worked hard to be a part of this production. There was a celebration on closing night which was enjoyed by all teachers that helped run the show and the cast. A big thankyou to Mrs Clarke for helping the 12 Junior boys to rehearse, we could not have done it without you!

Monday was a welcomed slower pace (take a breath!).

Tuesday was Edmund Rice Day, a day we always look forward to and a significant event on the Trinity calendar. However, this year, the usual festivities amongst the Junior and Secondary Schools did not go ahead. Instead, all classes held a liturgy to celebrate the significance of the day. Edmund Rice (1762-1844) was the founder of the Christian Brothers, who established our college in 1894. The Christian Brothers carried on the mission of Edmund Rice, helping those in poverty build a better life through education. Our College values of spirituality, community, service and excellence are based on the charisms of Edmund Rice.

Well done to the Year 5 boys for completing their NAPLAN this week, which ran from Tuesday to Friday. We know you all did your best. With the Year 5s staying focused on NAPLAN, sport training this week was only attended by the Year 6s. (As a reminder - the mornings are getting cooler so don’t forget your jumpers!).

Once Thursday came around, it was a clash of the colours blue and green (Trinity) versus the yellow and green (Wesley) for the Junior School winter sporting fixtures. The forecast was 100% chance of rain and was our first game of the year with winter conditions. Just like the rain forecast the boys put in 100% of their effort. Well done to all teams, we showed grit and determination in all aspects of the game and most importantly we all had lots of fun.

On Friday, the Year 6s headed to Fremantle to the WA Maritime Museum. This excursion was part of our Humanities and Social Sciences class to explore the stories of migrants who came to Australia since the 1950s. Not only did the boys learn a lot but they also had a lot of fun. Here is a link to the WA Maritime Museum | Western Australian Museum. Thankyou to the teachers and parents who volunteered with our excursion.

The end of the week concluded with a TOBA Assembly (the ‘icing’ on the ‘school cake’). It was the first time, this year, that the year 4’s experienced the excitement of the TOBA. This surely got their blood pumping with TC Spirit! Congratulations to the boys who received honour card awards and to the TOBA award winners!

Everyone stay well and have a wonderful weekend.
