YEAR 10 HOLOCAUST EXCURSION

On Friday 3 June, we travelled to the Jewish Holocaust Centre and The Shrine of Remembrance to further develop our understanding of the Holocaust and the experiences of people in concentration camps. The Jewish Holocaust Centre was an extraordinary place with many artifacts, including postcards, certificates and more, where we were challenged to analyse the significance of them. Being able to see what people created during the stressful times of the Holocaust showed the courageous attitudes of the people in the concentration camps and how cruelly they were treated. A major highlight of the JHC was meeting a survivor and being able to ask questions, which gave us a firsthand perspective, rather than finding a secondary source online.

The second part of our excursion was a visit to the Shrine of Remembrance. The Shrine is about honouring the sacrifice and service of the Australians during the war. The beautiful architecture of the building was complemented by the scenery of the city and greenery. Inside the building were many resources, including artefacts with background information on its significance.

Overall, the excursion was very enjoyable and provided us with an insight of the Holocaust and experiences of the Australian soldiers as well as the people in concentration camps. On behalf of the Year 10 Humanities cohort, we would like to thank Mr Clark for organising the excursion. Moreover, we also thank Mr Bramley, Ms Wen, Ms Loel, Ms Zhang, Ms Winton, Mr Armistead, Mr Sacco and Ms Kamimura for assisting in supervising the day!
