Holly Williams - Touch Football

Year 9 student, Holly Williams, recently competed in the NSW All Schools tournament in the Under 15s Girls' Touch Football at Narrabeen. Holly was playing in the CCC (Combined Catholic Colleges) team against CHS (Combined High Schools - State Schools) and CIS (Combined Independent Schools). Holly arrived on Friday night and met her team, followed by an all day training session on Saturday. After a series of games on Saturday night and Sunday, the CCC team played the CHS team in the grand final. The CHS team prevailed with a 8 - 6 win in a tight, see-sawing game. Holly has been selected in the NSW All Schools team to play against the other state teams in November. Congratulations to Holly on this wonderful achievement and we wish her well in the Australian All Schools tournament later in the year.

Over the last 5 weeks, our senior boys  Australian Football team have been playing in the Combined Wagga High Schools - Carroll Cup competition. The Kildare boys played some outstanding football throughout the pool rounds to progress through to the grand final unbeaten.

The grand final was always going to be a tight game against a strong opponent in Mater Dei Catholic College. MDCC jumped out of the blocks early and applied some real pressure to our game.

Year 10 student, Campbell Mattingly stood tall and kicked 3 of his 4 goals in the first half to keep us in the contest and give us a 5 point lead at half time. After half time, Kildare kicked into gear and started to get the game back on our terms. Captain, Joe Morton, was instrumental in gaining some momentum in the centre of the ground and Nick Madden started to really get on top in the forward line.

Some inaccurate kicking for goal made sure the game was a tight tussle right down to the final siren. Kildare on-baller, Charlie Douglas, had an outstanding game and was rewarded with the Mark Gooden Medal for Best on Ground in a Carroll Cup Grand Final.

Over the past few weeks, our Junior and Senior Netball teams have been competing in the Combined Wagga High Schools Tracey Gunson Netball Competition.

Our Senior Tracey Gunson team played Mater Dei in the first round of competition. Kildare started strongly, keeping up with the competition favorites for the first half of the match, however, Mater Dei dominated the second half, winning the game by 13 goals. In the second round, Kildare faced TRAC. After a slow start by both teams, TRAC took control of the game winning the match 40 to 28. As a result, Kildare finished third in Pool A and faced the winner of the Pool in the semi final, Mater Dei. Despite a really strong contest, Mater Dei won convincingly 42 to 30. Finally, our Seniors played off for third position against Kooringal High School (the winner of Pool B). Our girls displayed a high level of skill and exceptional sportsmanship throughout the match winning 44 to 11.

The Junior Tracey Gunson team also demonstrated some high quality Netball skills in their competition. In our first round game we played TRAC, who came out strongly. We were down by 7 goals at 3/4 time. But our girls never gave up and came back to win by 1 goal at the final siren. We then faced Mater Dei in the second round, who dominated and won by 13. Subsequently, Kildare finished second in our pool and faced the winner of Pool B in the semi final; Wagga Wagga High School. The opposing team were a challenge for our girls, but their determination to make the Grand Final saw us win by 4 goals. We were up against TRAC again in the Grand Final. Despite Kildare playing some exceptional Netball and demonstrating fierce competitiveness, we lost the game to finish runners up in the competition. A huge congratulations to Saffi Thomas who was deservingly awarded Player of the Match.

A special thanks to Timmy Bacon (PDHPE teacher) and Amanda McLachlan (parent) for umpiring for us throughout the competition.

We really appreciate your time and expertise.

Above are the Years 7/8 Navy and Red teams

On Wednesday 25th May, Kildare took three teams to the Netball NSW All Schools Netball Competition played at the Equex Centre.

Our Year 9/10 team dominated our pool by winning all round games against Temora High, St Anne's, Coolamon Central and Wagga Christian College convincingly. We then played TRAC who placed second in the other pool. Whilst TRAC led for most of the match, our girls finished the game strong winning by two goals to progress to the Regional Finals in August.

The Year 7/8 Navy team played teams from St Anne's, Wagga Christian College, Temora High School and TRAC. We won all our round games convincingly, except for the last game against TRAC. After a strong start and a level scoreline at half time, we couldn’t quite hold on to win, going down by 4. Consequently, we finished second in our pool and played Kildare Year 7/8 Red in the final. Friends on and off the courts, both teams displayed some excellent Netball skills. However, Kildare Navy were victors winning by 9 and will now progress to the regional final in August.

Our Year 7/8 Red team won all of their round games, playing against Mount Austin High School, Coolamon Central School and St Anne's. These games were tightly contested, however, the girls were able to demonstrate some strong netball skills, as well as  impressive teamwork. As a result, we won our pool which meant it was time to play our friends in Kildare Navy. The girls went into this game with a positive attitude and demonstrated some excellent plays, however, after half time Kildare Navy increased their lead and ended up victorious. The girls displayed brilliant sportsmanship and had an enjoyable day.

Secondary Schools Riverina Futsal Championships

Girls

Last week KCC entered multiple girls and boys teams in the Riverina branch of the NSW Secondary Schools Futsal Championships. We had some great success and impressive team and individual performances over the course of the two days. All players represented the College with great distinction and sportsmanship.

In particular, the Under 16’s and Under 14’s Girls were outstanding. Both teams remained undefeated and won their respective age groups. This qualified both teams for the State Finals in Sydney.

In the Under 14’s, Sacred Heart Cootamundra managed a hard fought draw with girls, otherwise the KCC girls dominated other teams with great teamwork and some individual brilliance. Special mentions to Asha Hastie, Hannah Ferguson and Tasha Pizarro for their individual contributions throughout the tournament. A special thanks to Ella Barrell for her help with Coaching the team.

In the Under 16’s, the KCC girls completely dominated their opposition throughout the day, conceding only 1 goal for the entire competition. A very organised and talented group of girls, who were well deserving of their success. Great teamwork was evident in all games along with some individual brilliance. Special mentions once again to Hannah Ferguson (GK) along with Ella Barrell and Grace Holaj.

Boys

The Under 14’s bBoys played to the best of their ability throughout the day and managed to win a tight semi-final to TRAC (after a loss to them in their earlier round game) to make the Grand Final. Unfortunately, KCC ran into a red hot Mater Dei outfit in the GF and finished runners up for the day. A great team effort with special individual mentions to Zac Wilde and David Stanton for their contributions.

Under 16 bBoys were competitive all day finishing with 2 wins, a draw and 2 losses to finish 3rd overall. Special mentions to Ronan Crain and Lachie Dicker for their contributions to the team effort.

The Open’s Boys were extremely unlucky not to progress to the Grand Final after remaining undefeated throughout their Round games. There was a contentious umpiring decision around whether a goal was scored or not in their Semi-Final v Young High School (i.e did the ball cross the line or not!?!). Unsurprisingly, our boys believed it did and were duly  disappointed when it was not called.

However, a very competitive semi-final and Young were a talented opponent. This resulted in a 3rd placing overall for KCC. A great team effort with outstanding individual performances from Max Prest, Oscar Knight and Ashton Bourke.

CCC Softball Selection

Congratulations to Braith Warren, who was selected in the NSW CCC Softball team this week. Once again, Braith was required to travel to Sydney for this.

This is another great success for Braith in Softball, after the National Championships earlier this year.

We wish Braith all the best for the All Schools Championships coming up later this year.
