Director of Missions

We should outrageously celebrate the success and kindness of others in order to highlight who we all should be more like.

In the final days of this term these are the words that I have been shown in the actions of our students and staff. What a great place Marian is.

Pyramids for Puppies

This was a new twist on one of our regular charities. What a way to finish the term. Each homeroom was asked to build a pyramid of dog food with no real rules. The best pyramid had the glory of charity champions and a pizza lunch. It is always sheer delight to be surprised once again by the enthusiastic charity of our community.

Each homeroom did an amazing effort and on Thursday they were given the challenge to build and blow away the judges. This is exactly what they did. Marian students are amazing and constructed over 30 pyramids including over 900 cans of dog food. The ambassador from Needy Paws and Kenji from Area News were delighted to see the efforts of the students. Once the judging stopped and the commotion had settled the announcement of the most impressive was made. It could not be split! Four homerooms stood out, Mr Jatan once again being a champion of charity. Mr Summerville and his Yr 7’s, Mrs Sparkes and her mighty Yr 9’s and Mrs Duncans impressive Yr 9’s also. They have led the way in how they embraced this challenge and went above and beyond. A picture says a thousand words so I will let the photos say the rest. Thanks everyone for the great work this term once again.

Caritas – Just Leaders Visit: Chris Nolan

On Monday the 16th Chris Nolan from Caritas Australia hosted a Social Justice leaders day with a selected group of students from Marian and St Francis Leeton. The students were from Yr 10 and were asked to apply for the opportunity. Approximately 30 from each school attended and it was a fantastic day. It was clear that the future leaders of both schools were potentially sitting in that room eager to hear and contribute in the best possible way they could. They fostered rich discussion and engaged in collaboration by building relationships between the two colleges that will spark stronger change for the future. They were informed around the different facts of the world and how it is different for everyone. They were challenged on how we share our resources as a nation or community, what change they could cause that would improve someone elses life?

They were informed that everyone is a leader for Social Justice and by the end of the day you could tell that they strongly agreed with this statement.

To witness the ideas and energy of this young group that was facilitated by Chris through the help of Sue Hone, was nothing short of fantastic.

They spoke about leading next term with honesty, thought, knowledge, open mind, enthusiasm and energy. The fact they were able to communicate this emphasised the success of the day already. Ideas have started and I look forward to displaying them next term in the newsletter as the come to life. Congratulations yr 10 and everyone involved.

Up coming Events

Next term we have Project Samoa and our fantastic Christmas hampers that the homerooms will be doing once again. It may seem a lot to us but it is the world to someone else so I cant wait for this next challenge.

Have an awesome break with family and friends but most importantly stay safe and look after each other.

Remember feedback is always welcome so get in touch if you have any questions, queries or suggestions around how we can continue to enhance your Marian through Mission.

Kind Regards

Heath Neville
