ICAS MEDAL CEREMONY

Last Saturday I was privileged to be invited to attend the ICAS 2019 Medal Presentation Ceremony. This ceremony acknowledges the students who have achieved the highest scores in their year level in each ICAS subject.

Ewan Prendergast, in 4JS, received a medal for the Year 4 Digital Technologies test- indicating Ewan achieved the highest score of all Australian students who sat the test.  We send a huge congratulations to Ewan   – we are so very proud of his achievement!

I thank the teachers (both class teachers and specialist teachers)  for their hard work in writing Semester Reports. The teachers spend a great deal of time outside of school hours analysing data, collating information from different assessments and moderating together to create reports for every student that allows you, as parents,  to track your child’s progress. .  Thank you to our teaching staff for their professionalism and dedication to this process.

To access the reports please log onto Compass.  School reports stay on Compass for as long as your child is enrolled at Wheelers Hill Primary. A reminder to Year 6 parents you may wish to make sure you have downloaded and saved your reports as you won’t be able to access these once your child has left the school.

LIBRARY BOOKS

Just a reminder that all Library Books should be returned to school as soon as possible.  Please check your childrens bags and rooms and remind them to bring any outstanding library books back to school.

SECOND HAND UNIFORMS

The final Second Hand Uniform shop will be held next Tuesday (10th of December) at 9.30am. This gives an opportunity for the parents of our 2020 preps to purchase some spare uniforms. We encourage you to donate any uniforms that are in good condition that your child may have grown out of. These can be delivered to the wheelie bin outside of the Assistant Principals' office. After donating, you are also welcome to purchase extra uniforms for your child.

As this is the final uniform shop sale, I thank Winnie Wu and her group of parent helpers for running the shop in the second half of the year.  This is another example of the wonderful parent helpers we have at Wheelers Hill and contributes to our Fundraising efforts.

MOBILE PHONE POLICY

From Term 1 2020 the Department of Education requires all schools to implement a new Mobile Phone policy. Wheelers Hill Primary School’s new Mobile Phone and Mobile Technologies policy was ratified at our final School Council meeting for 2019 last week and can be accessed via Compass – School Resources.

Essentially, the changes for 2020 that are stipulated in the policy require students in Year 4-6 who bring mobile phones to school to place them in a locked container in their classrooms each morning where they will stay locked all day. Students will be able to collect their mobile phone at the end of each day. For students in junior classes mobile phones will need to be taken to the school administration office each day where they will be placed in a locked cupboard and again students will be able to collect at the end of each day.

Smart watches can be worn during the day for the purpose of usage as a watch.  Students who use their mobile phone or other mobile device (including smart watches) inappropriately may be issued with consequences in line with the schools Student Engagement and Wellbeing policy and Code of Conduct.

If you have any questions regarding the Departments new guidelines please feel free to contact me on the email address below.
