Around The Primary

Dear Parents

The College Visual Arts Exhibition will be open tomorrow, Saturday 26 October from 11am to 2pm in the Thomas More Exhibition Centre. This Exhibition features artwork from the Secondary and Primary school students.  Tomorrow is your final opportunity to view the artwork .

Every student from Year 3-6 has a piece of artwork exhibited and there is also a small selection from the Early Years. It is a great opportunity for parents to view artwork across all years and for students to showcase their artwork. We hope many families will come along on Saturday and see the students’ design and creativity skills with both 2D and 3D work.

Special thanks to Ms Blaauw (Primary Visual Arts Teacher) for all her hard work to ensure that the Primary school has a range of art forms in this year’s exhibition.

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated today! I wish to acknowledge the professionalism, dedication and expertise of all those responsible for educating our students at John XXIII College.

As many parents know instinctively, the impact teachers have on a child’s education can be great. Educators are central to learning and, while there are other important factors, including the quality of the curriculum, school environment and student ability and commitment, it is teachers that breathe life into what is being taught and who engage and motivate students.

As a Catholic school we recognise that parents are their children’s first teachers. Teachers in Catholic schools, given their faith-based nature and commitment to the Church’s teachings, are especially important. Teaching is a vocation, a calling from God, not just a ‘job’.

Special thanks to the parent community for providing today’s feast at morning tea. I also encourage you to take the time to send an email or personally thank your child’s teacher/s on World Teachers Day.

We look forward to having a big parent cheer squad at the Junior Primary Athletics Carnival next Thursday 31 October. Extra parking will be available on the lawn area off Mooro Road. Don’t forget to wear your special Parent badge on the day!

Kind regards,

Sport Update

Kindy – Year 2 Athletics Carnival

We are all looking forward to the Kindy to Year 2 Athletics Carnival next Thursday.  The students have been practicing their sprints and team games and are ready to go!  It would be great to see lots of families there to cheer on all the races.  There will be two shade tents and a coffee van for parents.  Please bring your own chairs and picnic rugs.

Students  are required to wear their House shirts (PP to Year 2), hats and sun-screen and bring a water bottle.

Swimming Slips

Thank you to families who have already completed and returned swimming forms to their class teachers.  These are due by Wednesday 13 November.

Waste Wise

The College is in the process of gaining accreditation as a Waste Wise School.  In order to obtain certification, we underwent a waste audit both in the Primary and Secondary school to assess the amount of waste generated by the College in one day.

On Thursday Daniel Marano from the Waste Authority lead the process in the Primary school with help from the Year 4 students. Primary waste collected the previous day was sorted into twelve categories, counted, weighed and recorded by the students.

This data will be added to the Secondary data so the College can analyse the results and be informed on areas of ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ to improve the quantity of Waste produced by the College.
