Our final menu for the term is now complete which the students have all thoroughly enjoyed. Our last dishes were a lunch/dinner menu utilising some lovely silver beet and greens from our Stephanie Alexander garden.

The menu included:

  • Silver beet fettuccine
  • Basic tomato pasta sauce
  • Pear and parmesan salad

I also worked with a group of students from 3/4S to create our own simple recipe for gluten free pasta!

The students particularly enjoyed learning the techniques used to create a smooth pasta dough and using the pasta rollers to make our fettuccine. We also talked about the different flavours used and how the sweetness and saltiness from the pears and parmesan actually complement each other to make a delicious salad.

To our amazing volunteers, thank you all for a wonderful term. Kitchen classes would not be as diverse or as successful without the support from our parent helpers.

A very warm welcome to Moorabbin Kitchen Warehouse who have come on board as a regular sponsor of the program. The Kitchen Warehouse is a new store situated next to Moorabbin airport at DFO. They stock absolutely everything you use in the kitchen, from appliances, cookware and all of the knick knacks that are often hard to find.

With the spring holidays now upon us, it’s a wonderful time to get in the kitchen and cook up some delicious creations and I look forward to hearing all about them in Term 4. Enjoy!
