Leadership and Management

School Closure Day
The closure day on Tuesday March 14th allowed staff to deepen our understanding of 'Horizons of Hope' and the Renewed Religious Education Framework.
'Horizons of Hope' is the new educational framework for Teaching and Learning in Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. The framework will support schools to engage in dialogue about the distinctive nature of learning and teaching, leading learning and enhancing Catholic Identity in our schools. The framework has embraced the advice and feedback of school and system leaders, while harnessing the findings of appreciative inquiries into best practice within Catholic schools. The initial publication of the framework consists of: Vision, Context and Strategy, which includes three foundation statements; Assessment in a Catholic school; Curriculum in a Catholic school and Pedagogy in a Catholic school - and supporting resources.
With the guidance of Ingrid Green (Catholic Education Melbourne Religious Education Learning Consultant) the staff unpacked the Renewed Religious Education Framework to deepen our knowledge of how it can be applied to support and enhance the teaching and learning of Religious Education at Galilee.
Professional Development
Registered teachers are required by VIT (Victorian Institute of Teaching) to engage in at least 20 hours of professional development each year. Ongoing professional development is important and keeps teachers up-to-date on new research on how children learn, emerging technology tools for the classroom, new curriculum resources, and more. Teachers may engage in a range of activities that updates their professional knowledge and practice. Professional development may be undertaken individually or with colleagues, either at school or externally.
The following diagram provides an understanding of the range and variety of methods teachers can use to update their professional knowledge and practice.
