Girls in science day
International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Last Thursday, the STEAM team hosted activities during lunch and recess in honour of International Women's day and International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS), which is celebrated to honour the achievements of women around the world specifically in Science and STEAM-related fields.
During recess, we had a scavenger hunt where students could find pictures of female scientists around the school and bring it to the science office in exchange for a sweet treat. This was a very popular program and we had many students participating. To take a look at the scientist profiles, come down to the Science building and check out the notice board in between S2 and S3.
During lunch, we had a robotics showcase courtesy of volunteers from Monash University’s Robogals which is a student-run organisation that aims to inspire and empower young women in STEM. They had four Lego mindstorms robots which we used to battle each other in a mini field. Very much like sumo wrestling!
There was also a match the scientists to the invention game where students matched scientists to their famous inventions for prizes!
If you are interested in learning more about robotics and coding, please join our Robotics Club. Sessions run every Thursday at lunchtime in the STEAM Connect Centre. Please fill in this form so we can get in touch with you https://forms.gle/Y9zeygciuWw6fowa9.
If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with Miss Leong (09931826@mgsc.vic.edu.au).
Thank you everyone for participating!
