Students in year 10 Outdoor Education has an excursion to Smiths Beach on Thursday 11 February to hit the waves and go for a surf! The weather was a stunning 32 degrees and the water refreshing. Although the waves were small, this was a great opportunity for our students to learn about risk management in the outdoors, how to safely swim out of a rip, water safety and of course improve our surfing techniques! The students wore fluro zinc in support of ‘Fluro Friday’.
OneWave created ‘Fluro Friday’ a global impact, raising awareness and reducing social stigmas around mental health issues. Fluro Friday's started at Bondi Beach in 2013 and consist of surfing, free yoga and a “anti-bad vibes circle” allowing people to share stories in a safer environment. Wearing bright colours makes people happy and help start conversations about an invisible issue.
As a class we discussed the importance of switching off from the stressors of life and the role nature can play in doing just that. What a great day!
Three classes (8A, 8B and 8H ) walked to the beach for a PE class that included playing beach games.
The class walked to Mentone beach for a yoga session on the sand with their teacher. They will be exploring different types of fitness sessions over the course of the semester and developing their own training programs.
They concluded the session with a gratitude meditation, reflecting on how lucky we are to go to school in such a beautiful location.
PE classes continued in remote learning this week. Year 7s did a exercise session with our PE teacher candidate.
