Shakespeare in the Park

On Saturday the 6th of March, the VCE 1 / 2 Literature class headed down to Melbourne to view the Australian Shakespeare Company’s Macbeth in the Botanical Gardens.

As the 1 / 2 Literature class is currently studying Shakespeare’s Macbeth, it was a wonderful opportunity to visualise the play and deepen understanding. The Australian Shakespeare Company performed a wonderful rendition of Macbeth, with minimal set and an outdoor environment, the audience was transported back to an atmosphere similar to that of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, making the experience all the more authentic. The play was deeply emotive with cleverly expressed characters; especially the Porter (Kevin Hopkins), the comedian of the show, giving the audience a well-needed laugh midway through the tragic plot. With perfectly still, cool air on a clear night, the class settled down comfortably in the stunning gardens, entranced by the performance. Then, invigorated by the fantastic evening, sang and laughed with friends on the bus, all the way home.
