Student Achievements

Minnis Shield

During Week 4, fourteen students participated in our 2021 ASC Minnis Shield Public Speaking competition. The variety and high caliber of speeches made choosing winners a difficult task, before finally arriving at:

  • Stage 4: Alma Kanety
  • Stage 5: Josie O’Baoill
  • Stage 6: Rubi Ainsworth

Josie O’Baoill was selected as the overall winner of the competition.

Named after a former Duval principal, the Minnis Shield Public Speaking competition offers participating students a broad range of speech topics. Students are encouraged to think broadly and to incorporate their interests and passions. The audience heard speeches ranging from the impact of artificial intelligence on humanity, the importance of creativity and individuality in the modern world, the creation of an international anthem, and a call to action for a more selfless society.

Congratulations to all participants for your high quality, inspiring speeches and for making the adjudicators jobs very difficult!
