It has been an exciting start to the year for Science. Our Year 11 students Yashasvi Agrawal, Sofia Tsimprailidou and Alicia Scott attended the Royal Women’s Hospital – Meet a Scientist event which occured online. During the program they heard from Dr Ellen Menkhorst (Reproductive Biology Research Fellow), Dr Amanda Wong (Paediatric Physiotherapist Postdoctoral researcher), Pamela McCalman (Registered midwife Research officer) and Dr Elizabeth Baker (Neonatal trainee research fellow). Through this program the students were able to understand the paths and opportunities available to them in the health field and what higher education pathways are beyond.

In the Year 11 Chemistry class they have been studying the reactivity of metals. To help them understand this concept students observed a demonstration of Group 1 metals and their reactivity in water. During the demonstration they observed that potassium has a greater level of reactivity compared to lithium.
